Cuff?

Gotta ask - what is a cuff that everyone talks about? Will I have one with a DaVinci hyster?

Re: Cuff?

The medical definition is: The part of the vagina remaining after hysterectomy and cervicectomy. (from a medical dictionary site)

Most often when you read it here, the term is used to describe the closure in the vagina after a hysterectomy that turns the passage between vagina and the space formerly occupied by the uterus into a cul-de-sac... and if your surgery includes your entire uterus, cervix and all, yes, you'll have one.

Re: Cuff?

The best description i have seen of it is this. After they remove the cervix, if they are indeed removing yours, they have to sew you shut. Basically the end of your vaginal canal will be sewn shut much in the same way the toe end of a tube sock is. I have one. I can't feel it, notice it, nor am I bothered by it. Mind you I am only three weeks out and am still healing. Hope this helps!

Re: Cuff?

I didn't know what a cuff was either. Doc removed my cervix too, so I have one. It's not an issue. Everything feels normal as before.

Re: Cuff?

Even if you keep your cervix, there will be a closure sewn between the top or your cervix and your insides - you won't have a "breeze-way!" I had a total hysterectomy - that includes the cervix, the lower part of the uterus, so I have a "cuff."
