Smoking the morning of?

I smoked all the way to the hospital. On my way in the door I was still smoking. That was the last cigarette I had. I had decided to quit then since I couldn't have one in the hospital. I'm glad I did quit and the surgery sure did make it easier. They never said anything to me about not smoking. I was a pack a day smoker and right before my surgery I went to 2 packs. In fact no one ever asked anything else about my smoking (other than at my preop the day before). They were more interested in when the last time I had anything to eat or drink.
