How much moving around I should be doing 6 day post Hysterectomy?

So I was wondering how much moving around I should be doing 6 day post Hyst? I don't want to over do it but I also want to move around and start getting my energy back. I still have that darn shoulder pain and my incisions are itching more then painful. Otherwise I am coming around. Any thoughts?

Re: How much moving around I should be doing 6 day post Hysterectomy?

Walking really made me feel better. My dr told me that by 7 days I should be able to walk at least a mile. I did that pretty easily. Best advice is to walk until you get tired, relax and then when you have energy back, walk some more. If you haven't walked too much, don't venture so far away that you can't make it back. You could go around the block, and if you are not tired, go again. I was up and moving around pretty much most of the day, but not doing anything requiring much exertion.

I'm with coughy16 - walking is the best thing you can do for yourself. Don't hesitate to walk outside.

Re: itching, I applied Benadryl gel alongside (not on) my incision, and that helped a lot.

For me, it is hard to find a balance. I have 27 staples up my abdomen and am fearful of getting on the treadmill to walk until my stitches come out. I do walk outside...but am very careful as I don't want any problems with my stitches. I am sure you will find what works for you.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

PressOn, when are you getting your staples out? I'm just curious because I got mine out 13 days after surgery, so it seems to me that you should be about due. :-) I had 38 of the darn things!
