Endometriosis and possible adenomyosis

First time on, sorry this is so long. I have suffered from endometriosis for 23 years. I generally have a lap surgery every few years and stay on birth control pills to control symptoms. As soon as this quit working I have another surgery. I know my endo symptoms and my body. But since May of this year I have been suffering from a host of all new or more intense symptoms. I am now bleeding (brown clots with tissue) after sex and in between periods. When I did come off the pill to have a period all I passed was blood clots and what looks to be flakes of tissue. No real menstrual blood is being passed anymore, just these gross dark brown blood clots. I have always had problems with constipation and diarrhea during my cycle but now it is more intense. I passed two large clots literally while vomiting and having diarrhea (no fever). My back has been nonstop hurting for past two weeks. My pelvis and vagina always has a dull ache. I am nauseous all day, my appetite is declining.. When I went to the doctor she initially refused to do an exam because they didn’t schedule the appointment correctly. I became very frustrated and vocal because I thought an exam was called for, long story short she did a quick pap and gave me my referrals that I requested. At the end of the appointment she assured me it was most likely my endo acting up and I would have to have a hysto. I have appointments for ultrasounds while I wait for my referrals to go through. But in the meantime I am curious has anyone had endo symptoms increase like this? To me it sounds like my endo with possible adenomyosis.

Re: Endometriosis and possible adenomyosis

Endometriosis symptoms can increase over time depending on where the implants are located and how your body is reacting to those implants and the subsequent inflammation and adhesions. having so many prior surgeries likely means you have significant adhesions which could be causing your contributing to your symptoms as well. Also, over time our own hormone levels can change which can affect symptoms, especially if you have been using hormonal treatments and those change in any way and/or your ovaries are being affected by endometriosis and/or adhesions.

Are you keeping a very detailed symptom diary? This can help you and your medical team figure out what is going on and what your best course of action should be.

While a hysterectomy would cure any possible adenomyosis and any uterine pain and bleeding issues, it does not cure endometriosis. Thus, regardless of if and what type of surgery you choose, you need to find a surgeon with exceptional skills and experience with regard to endometriosis. Because you have required repeat laps over the years, it is apparent that you have not been seeing an endometriosis specialist so I would encourage you find one before heading back into OR for any reason.

in there and best wishes!

Re: Endometriosis and possible adenomyosis

I was diagnosed with stage 3 endo, with adenomyosis also. I had the vaginal ablation May 31st 2012. after 3 weeks all discharge stopped and I was doing fine. I had a total hysterectomy scheduled for July 23rd 2012. i cancelled and postponed it until October. I am terrified to go through the surgery. I do not want to loose my ovaries. I researched alternatives, and found Endovan. Please look into it. I am into my 2nd week and feel wonderful. It disolves fibroids, and endometriosis tissue. I ordered it on a friday and had it on monday. I am taking two pills twice a day from the first day and can have wonderful sex, with no pain any more. things were discharging from my body within the first week, so i know it is working. pleas look into this .... PLEASE you will not be sorry... Peg

Re: Endometriosis and possible adenomyosis

Before trying any supplement, please check with your doctor first. There are no long term reputable studies indicating this supplement is effective for treating endometriosis. Additionally, natural does not mean safe.

Hi Ginagal
Your post could have been written by me! I had all those exact symptoms that you did. It got to the point that the pain would make me throw up (but I'd always have diarrhoea at the same time which I never quite figured out). My back pain every month was excruciating with it feeling like my back was gonna break in two. I opted to have a hysterectomy (I'd had 3 previous excision laps, and my tubes tied) but kept my ovaries. That was 8 weeks ago, and I have to say that I FINALLY feel like I have my life back. After 24 years of excruciating pain and fatigue, I finally feel "normal". My pathology report showed that I had adenomyosis and endometriosis actually IN my cervix (as well as on my sacro iliac ligaments and right ovary).
I'm 39 and do not for a single second, regret having a hyst. I am very aware that the endo can return, but at least the adeno can't - and that was what caused all my issues.
