Upcoming hysterectomy: Nervous and bummed
Hey yall. I am scheduled to have a TAH on the 28th due to excessive pain, bleeding and a uterine prolapse. The closer it gets the more nervous and bummed I get. I am 33 years old ( I hear " oh you are so young! " every time I tell someone about it ) , and I had my youngest son by c-section last August. I have 3 beautiful boys, but it saddens me a lot to know that I won't have the option of anymore children later on. The surgery itself scares the crap outta me. My doctor says all these feelings are normal , but I still worry. It does get better, right?

Re: Nervous and bummed
I am having mine the same day! Whenever I think about maybe I should back out, I remind myself of all that I have gone through, horrible heavy periods with clotting and cramping. I recently found out I have adenomyosis after having such horrible fatigue since Sep. and last couple months not being able to run. When I ask myself if I want to live like this anymore, then I feel excited to get my life back. I hope you come to peace with this, so it will be a good thing for you, if its what you really want to do.

Re: Nervous and bummed
Hi Kryskarnage to HysterSisters!
I am so glad you found this site!
Yes, your emotions, feelings, nerves, and freakouts are very normal. So is your sadness about not being able to have more children. It is very hard to say goodbye to your uterus. Something that has made its presence known to you, for better or worse, for decades. This is something that carried your babies. And now it is being taken from you by force. Of course you are upset and in mourning.
When I was told I needed a hysterectomy I several times before my surgery, and many more times after. I was in mourning for my uterus (as well as cervix, tubes and ovaries) for a long time after surgery. I felt less of a woman, and less feminine, and empty. The intensity of these feelings did diminish with time, but they can still pop up from time to time.
Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you and understand what you are going through.

Upcoming hysterectomy: Nervous and bummed
It gets better. It gives you a chance to feel better in the long run. I was sad to have a hysterectomy and was so grateful that I was able to have one child before I had the operation. Now I can't tell you how relieved I am not to be suffering with the terrible symptoms I had before. I feel like I can enjoy life now. I wish you luck! It takes time to heal so take good care.
