2nd opinion

Well, I went for a 2nd opinion today. Just wanted to be sure that there wasn't any other option and I was still going back and forth regarding removal of the ovaries.

The OB/GYN I saw is the Dr. who delivered by kids, (I can't go to him for the surgery because he is not in my specific insurance group).

Basically he concurred with the other Drs. recommendation regarding the TAH and gave me different options regarding the BSO. He said I should definitely have the right ovary removed since I have been having pain there for so many years. In regards to the left ovary, he indicated that once the cyst was removed, if the ovary was healthy, I may opt to keep it thereby delaying the need to start HRT right away. He also said that the left ovary, over time, may continue to cause me pain and then at that time I may opt to have it removed also. That particular procedure would be on an out-patient basis. Then I asked him if his wife was in my situation, what would he recommend she do. He said the TAH/BSO will guarantee that I will be pain free so that is what he would recommend.

I guess that's what I needed to hear. I almost feel a sense of calm, knowing that this procedure is the right one for me.

18 days and counting!

2nd opinion

That is exactly what my doctor said too and you have eased my mind! I have read so many posts that woman say to keep ovaries if they are healthy and I do see their point, but I do not want pain anymore and if taking both ovaries along with the uterus will guarentee a pain free life...than I want them to take them! I was one of the lucky ones that lupron did work (only during the 6 months) and that is why my doc wants to take the ovaries! Thanks for your posting, it made me feel better about my decision too!!

2nd opinion

I'm glad you were able to find some peace of mind from your second opinion! That's one of the main reasons we recommend that everyone get at least two opinions...it does make it much easier to come to terms with the many choices we have to make.

Now you can feel sure that you are making a good choice for YOU!!
