Menopause symptoms or just regular recovery symptoms?

I am 7 days post op da Vinci, uterus and cervix removed.

I didn't know that ovaries go could to 'sleep' post surgery until I read about it on here. My doctor never mentioned it to me. I'm wondering if the symptoms I'm experiencing today are menopause, or are part of regular recovery?

Insomnia... I've had that since the surgery and not able to sleep well. Got a prescription for Ambien yesterday but was hesistant to take it just yet. Today I woke up with really itchy skin and a migraine. Had to go back to bed and slept for 2 hours and still have the migraine.

Itchy skin from pain meds? I've heard that can be the case. Migraine - I always got them when I had my period. I've always had night sweats, but not had them yet since surgery.

If it is menopause symptoms and sleepy ovaries, what can I do about it - if anything?

Re: Menopause symptoms or just regular recovery symptoms?

You are still early post op, so your body is going through an adjustment from major surgery. I would give it some time for everything to settle down, it may be too soon to say your ovary is failing. No matter what kind of surgery you have it does take several weeks for you to heal. If your symptoms get worse or you can't manage with it, then let your doctor know. Medications from surgery and pain meds can cause things to be off as well. Insomnia is quite common after surgery for a lot of us.

Re: Menopause symptoms or just regular recovery symptoms?

I am 10 weeks post op LAVH/bladder sling - I kept my ovaries but still had some menopause symptoms - the insomnia was a killer!!!!!! I was too afraid to take a prescription as I had a friend killed "sleep driving" on one of them. I still have bouts weekly with it, but it is easing up FINALLY!!! I tried every thing under the sun - what I found works best is the wal mart brand sleep aid! Go figure! Good luck sister!! It gets better, but it will take some time! I also had the horrible headaches and night sweats.....totally sucks but for the most part those are gone. Happy healing!
