Hospital Waiting List UK

Hi - I have been on the list since mid November and must admit I am now starting to get a bit twitchy - I know that it is wrong to feel impatient, particularly as I know some of you have had to wait much longer than 5 months, but this 'not knowing' waiting period I am certainly finding the hardest. Now I just feel like I want to go in and get it all taken away and sorted out. Fact that symptoms are getting worse does not help. Like lots of you, it is now affecting my work and home life. My Consultant's secretary suggested I go and see GP again and see if he can do anything to get me moving with regards to a date. I plan to do so this week. Anyone else out there is a similar situation want to share their feelings?

Hi Topazstar,

Big 's to you.

I am UK too and understand your feelings though I had my op 2 years ago. Don't feel bad that you are feeling twitchy and certainly don't feel you are being impatient either. My problems spilled into all areas of life too and I so relate to your feelings of wanting it done and sorted.

I was lucky to have a gyn nurse as a friend whom suggested I change to a gyn trained gp as they have more understanding of what you are going through than those who aren't. On her advice too, I kept a log of how I was feeling, mood swings, pain and included things such as how I was affecting others, not coping at work, making hashes of everything and examples of it too. (I lost keys, my purse several times, files, paperwork etc .... and that was just at work ) When you see your gp you then have something to show them that they can work with too.

I don't know if you already do any of these things or where abouts in the UK you are as the NHS address lottery seems to play a part in how quickly you progress on their lists. When I was put on the list, I was told it could be 6-8 months waiting. Have they given you any indication of how long you may have to wait?

Finally, have you been put on the list to accept cancelled appointments? It does mean very little notice sometimes but can make a difference for you. I told the consultant I was willing to go in on a days notice for the simple reason I just wanted it done so I could begin to live again. I hope you get the news you want very soon. It's so hard when you are sufferring so and my heart goes out to you.

Take care,

Topazstar, I've been in the 'gynae system' for about 15 years now, give or take. I was told I could have the hyst last May and received a date through for Oct 16th. So a 6 months wait for the op, but not too long for the actual date. I totally agree with Musk. Go and see your GP with a list of all symptoms and knock-on effects. I know you'll already have been through this over and over, but persistence will pay off. Ask your GP to contact your consultant. It will get you back on the radar. My op was deferred due to family illness (mum was very ill and I was in bits) but they've got me back in for March 20th...Next Monday...Oh my..! I'll be thinking of you.

Waiting List in UK

Hi both - thanks so much for your help. I have made date to see my GP tomorrow (who does specialise in gyne) and have a list in duplicate to give to him - one for me to read from, with details of everything that is going on at the moment - physically and how it is affecting work and home. Hopefully he will listen, but it has been a battle so far to be taken 'seriously' sometimes. I feel like I am always nagging but guess that is what we have to do as it is our health at stake. If he can influence the Consultant at all, it can only help. I am trying to keep a good relationship going with both of them, although sometimes it is not easy! Already feeling better that I am taking some positive action so thanks again. xx

Hi

I was going to suggest making a 'nuisance' of yourself by ringing the Consultant's Secretary, writing letters, etc ... no need!

Take care and all the best.
