Stopped Surgery

So, after 2 anxious months of waiting for this davinci hysterectomy, and reading up on it way too much, we couldn't do it. I had a bronchospasm when they intubated me, my lungs seized, and I wasn't getting any air. they pumped me full of epinephrin, benedryl, and antibiotics, taped on the pads and had the paddles ready. My lungs responded to the meds before I "went blue" and they WERE able to do a D&C so they can check for cancer, but they couldn't risk the full operation.

So, now I have to go see a lung specialist to find out what's wrong there. I used to have chronic asthma, but I have barely used an inhaler for years (mostly during the spring now). I told them about my asthma and they said they would watch out for that as sometimes intubation can induce an asthma attack.

The doctor told my husband (of 30 yrs) that they "almost lost me." They probably almost lost HIM at that point! I was actually looking forward to getting this over with - they were even going to tape the operation for me (sorry, I think it's cool technology). I still have the fibroids, so I still have a bleeding problem, and we'll have to consider our options going forward. The hospital staff was awesome, and super nice/informative. I'm just not sure about being intubated again - I am very shaken up.

Re: Stopped Surgery

I'm very sorry to hear this happened.

If you still expect to have a hysterectomy, then please feel free to start a new thread (just as you did here) in our <link> Pre-Op Support forum where others can share their experiences. If, however, you'd now like to take this opportunity to explore the possibility of other options/procedures to avoid major surgery, then please don't hesitate to check out the Treatment Options Page and start a new thread for support in our Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives forum.

Sending all good wishes and positive thoughts!
