Question - ER visit diverticulitis possible? ER visit diverticulitis possible?

Sisters,
I spent the entire evening/night until 5 am in ER. My pain got so intense dh rushed me to the ER. Dr thinks something is going on with my bowels. He mentioned Diverticulitis, and he gave me IV pain meds and nausea meds as well. Dr. did a pelvic and rectal exam. He said test from exam showed some blood in my stool. He then sent me for a CT scan, and like most of my past diagnostic test it showed nothing. It seems no matter how many diagnostic test I take nothing shows until I end up having to be open up, and the surgeon see's my problem then. Any way so he thinks something is still wrong he doesn't know what though. He sent me home with pain meds, and nausea meds. The pain meds are helping a little but not alot. I am using a heating pad too. No health insurance right now so I can't go for further testing until we can get health insurance coverage. Has anyone had diverticulitis? If so can you tell me about your symptoms? I don't have a fever and I know is a symptom. Wishing to be pain free!!!!!

Re: ER visit diverticulitis possible?

Oh yes - diverticulitis is quite possible without fever. July 2011 I had horrid dragging low down pain and constant tummy upset. Sometimes I was doubled-up (as if with bad period pain - but I am post-menopause) so I went to my doctor and from the tests that followed (colonoscopy) I most definitely had diverticulitis (they also found a large bowel lump - fortunately benign and, via MRI that followed, a uterine lump - hence I'm on this WONDERFUL site. I had radical hysterectomy and bowel resection together and a year later I am WELL - Hooray (and thank you HysterSisters).

I had no idea I had diverticulitis until I had the colonoscopy but had been suffering for months - my GP had told me I "probably had lactose intolerance" following some antibiotics! So DO get it investigated - it can be treated - hopefully not as drastically as mine - but you will be well.

ER visit diverticulitis possible?

Hello. Sorry I don't have any personal experience of diverticulitis, 2 of my close family have it, was diagnosed via a colonoscopy as mentioned in a prior post. They both had the same symptoms as Stormchic, but the only way to really know is an investigation. Here in uk its done very quickly on nhs if its thought to be an urgent situation, no idea of the cost in the private sector, will be expensive. Sending you good wishes Stormchic, hope you can get your insurance fixed, you have had plenty to deal with with hyst etc. X

Re: ER visit diverticulitis possible?

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been on in a couple of days, as I have been really down in the dumps and in pain. I just want all of this to go away.
