Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 11, 2016

Howdy!
I'm scheduled for 12/16 for same surgery. I've got a fibroid farm.

My doctor assured me that sex will feel better without the previous pain.

I don't think of myself as any less of a woman for empowering myself and removing something like my uterus that is destroying my quality of life!

Good luck with surgery!

I'll be home with may husband and son who is 21 so will be well looked after there but unfortunately my brother is still expecting me to look after his child 2 days each week, I've ample time away from my own job so no stress there but I'm really anxious about caring for a 3 year old while still recovering, I know if I saw I can't do it it will cause a rift between me brother and I

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 11, 2016

Hi everyone - my surgery is scheduled for this Friday. It's outpatient, laproscopic, uterus and ovaries. I'm 47 and have been in menopause for a couple of years, so I'm hopeful the ovary removal doesn't cause too much of an issue. Having this done due to fibroid bleeding that has resulted in battling severe anemia for two years (yes, I should've had this done earlier...sigh).

I feel like I'm as ready as I can be in terms of 'my house in order'. I even cleaned my youngest's fish tank this afternoon - haha! And, I'm keeping myself busy this week with work, some school volunteering stuff, getting my hair done, and generally trying not to think too hard about Friday morning. As for day of, I'm planning to wear comfortable clothes and toss a pillow in the car for the ride home.

For those of you having surgery this week, I wish you a smooth surgery, speedy recovery, and caring/helpful support network!

This, combined with an ongoing custodial and co-parenting struggle with my 3-year-old's father, makes me anxious about having this procedure. Also, the surgeon is also fixing extensive pelvic floor damage and insists one night in hospital is more than sufficient. Maybe it is, but everything I've read about either procedure seems pretty major. Any thoughts?

I would love to hear more about the pelvic floor. I am wondering once they go in, they will hopefully see if I had damage from my transvaginal mesh 12 years ago. Best of luck to you

Premphase helped until a minor genetic clotting mutation was found and I was taken off hormones. Initially set up for LAVH 3 years ago but changed jobs and insurance and had to go to new gynecologist.
My fears are infection and post op pain. I'm a little anxious about the lack of rapport I have with my surgeon but he's supposed to be one of the best.
I just want it over and to get back to normal life. I'm writing at 3am due to hormones I get hot flashes and don't sleep well. Or my mind could be going 100 miles a minute.
Good luck to all.
I hope all goes well and you feel great after recovery

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Dec 11, 2016

I'm having my surgery Wednesday morning. At this point I'm most anxious about not being able to eat. I always wake up starving. Maybe I'll be too nervous to care.

The surgeon is also repairing my cystocele & rectocele. The entire procedure is being done vaginally. I am still breastfeeding, so this will be my first night away from my toddler. I'm more emotional than I thought I'd be considering she's #4.

I wonder what is the typical pain management rx post-op? I will ask my Dr, but this didn't occur to me to ask before today. I would honestly prefer to take something OTC on a schedule as opposed to anything heavier.

Is there much bleeding vaginally afterwards or should everything be pretty clean?

I have 4 children also. Of course it's hard to do all the"firsts" with the last one because it's the last one. HUGS!! In regard to pain meds every doctor is different and every person. Let your Dr. Know that you're still BF. But take care of you too. I asked the bleeding question. Everyone is different but I'm told spotting is expected so I bought a pack of pads. Hang in there. We will get through this!

Are you flying because you are seeing an endometriosis specialist? That is the type of surgeon most likely to be able to successful treat endometriosis. Many are also knowledgeable about diaphragmatic endo or could refer you to someone with knowledge.

Anyone on here had diaphragmatic involvement with endo?
I'm curious to hear your story!
If you do a search of the site, you can read some of our older threads on the topic, but off the top of my head I can't think of any current members with diaphragmatic endo. I do know it is important to have a skilled surgeon treat this type of endo, even more so than treating pelvic endometriosis.

Nervous but also anxious to see if this could change my quality of life for the better!
It's normal to feel nervous before surgery, especially since a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis. If you want to learn more about endo, feel free to pop over to our Endometriosis Support forum where there are women dealing with endometriosis both before and after hysterectomy. We also have a number of Endometriosis Articles you might find helpful.
