what are these cyst???

Maybe they are just common, but on my left overy I had what appeared to be several cyst, like a cluster, all connected together with little clear windows. 2 weeks ago when the dr saw this without much explaination, He asked me if I would be OK!(Like he saw something horrible) Then he told me to come back in two weeks, and we would take another look. This has been going on for years, with other drs. I called his office and told his nurse that between the anemia, and bleeding, and the fact that I'm soon to be 49, and having bowel problems, that I just want everything out. I went to see dr today and he asked me if I was sure, like I hadn't given it enough thought. I've thought about it for ever. Plus he was the one that suggested surgery after the last visit. He is a good dr. But really it didn't help to ask me if I was sure. I don't scare easily, but now I'm wondering what he saw that I didn't understand about these cyst????? I know I should have asked him, but he is always so busy!!!!!!

Hi I read your post and thought about it! I wouldn't worry yourself! If he thought it was something serious he probably would have told you! The first thing that came to my mind was 1 cyst can cause alot of pain and if you have multiple cysts maybe he thought you were in quite a bit of pain? If you are concerned CALL HIM! No matter how busy he is! They usually have nurses to handel phone calls for questions and they ask the doc and get back with you so it would only take the doc a few minutes! If it were me I'd call and ask!

I can see how you would feel a bit concerned by the Dr's reaction. I am feeling that he probably just wants to make sure that you are confident in your choice. The BSO stands for Bilateral Salpengo Opherctomy. My dr's nurse told me that stands for both fallipian tubes/ovaries and cervix. I was glad she explained it. I asked about keeping the cervix though and he seemed to think it was best to have it removed as well.

I wish you well and know that you will be just fine. We have really evolved in the medical field since my last surgery in 1988. So glad for modern science.

I have been told that cysts are very common in women and we usually make them on a monthly basis, but most of them dissolve. I am not sure who the source was that told me that and of there accuracy. I can say that I have had them, my sister, my grandmother and my niece. I may be mistaken and if anyone could clarify this for you it sure would be a comfort hey?

Please try not to be too concerned with the negative aspects of all this. I too and trying to take my own advice because it is easy to do when we have a major abodominal surgery we are facing. But from experiencing it in the past it truly was not that bad and I made it through it fine.

To get my mind off of the negatives I went today and got the best pedicure and manicure. I just loved being pampered. It made me feel sorry for the lady doing it. I thought, "Ahhh, no one does this for her...."

It did take my mind off of everything for a few hours and now I am admiring my fingers and toes and loving every minute of it.

Fluid-filled ovarian cysts are very common. In fact, it's kind of the nature of ovaries to create tiny cysts...the cyst bursts, and that's where the egg gets released from every month. They can become a problem if the egg doesn't get released for some reason and the cyst keeps growing, or if the ovary produces too many cysts at once and an egg can't be released from all of them.

I have had ovarian cysts off and on for most of my adult life. I had one removed surgically when I was 22 that the doc said was about the size of a grapefruit. By that time my periods had stopped and I was in pretty severe pain, but some people don't have any symptoms. I had another one removed laparascopically that was lemon-sized. If a cyst gets too large it can sometimes rupture (this has also happened to me) and that can be quite painful, but it's not life-threatening. A ruptured cyst does create the possibility for infection, but I think that is rare.

Most of the time, if the cysts are not huge, the doc will just keep an eye on them, taking a wait and see approach. Sometimes they may try to shrink them with anti-inflammatory drugs like naproxen or ibuprofen. Overall they are not anything to worry about unless you they are causing you pain, and will often go away by themselves. But if cysts grow too big, they are worth being concerned about. A very large cyst can press on other organs such as the bladder or the uterus, or it can damage the ovary itself.
