You guys are such a great source of info for those of us that have no knowlege of what to expect. Far better than a medical pamphlet.

What do you do while you are recovering? I have never been one to "completely relax" and think I might go insane without something to do. My only hobby is riding motorcycles and that will definitely be out for a while.

What are some tips for dealing with the changes in my bowels and what can I expect? Do they alter your bladder in any way? My neighbor told me to make sure my dr "tacked" mine up? What is that!!!!????

Thanks to all of you for your input. I am feeling armed with more information and am getting a little more secure now that I have talked with people who have been there.

Hi Agent D,
I am 4 months post op and I remember thinking that my bowel movements were never going to be normal again but one day I just realized that everything was functioning like it should. I don't really know when it happened. I was on stool softeners for about 10 weeks and then decided to stop taking them. It was rough going for about a week and then I stopped being constipated all the time. I guess it just gradually returned to normal.

(agentD)))))))))

As stanleys angel said, stool softeners, Gas X and have some Milk Of Magnesia in case (with your Drs ok ) the others don't work. Short walks and drinking lots of water help get the bowels and gas moving along.

You may want to pick up some puzzle books. Whichever type you might enjoy. They help to clear the brain fog.

Good Luck,

Pamcat

Hi Agent D,
You asked about the bladder tack. That is just a procedure done for a cystocele or bladder prolapse. It depends on if you are having trouble with incontinence. I had my surgery for prolapse and it was extremely helpful.
