pre-op freak-out

I'm just about to jump out of my skin and go crazy!!! My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday (week from today). The reality of it all came flooding forth with the pre-op testing and the final word HYSTERECTOMY....I have many friends that have lived through it all, but why do I still feel alone?? I've given my fibroid tumor the name "claude" to make myself laugh...I've always disliked that name. The fibroid is huge! And it gives me so much pain...it just has to go the doctor said. I hope all works out well as this is my first major surgery...and I'm 49 years old. I'm a follower of Reiki and the Reiki treatments will help me heal faster and hopefully I will need less pain medication. If anyone else has used Reiki for their hysterectomy, please post a feedback....thanks

Reiki?

I am not sure what Reiki is, but I hope it works for you?

It's understandable that you are panicing about your pending surgery. I too have surgery for a complete hysterectomy on the 28th of January. In looking at this website and posts from other hystersisters it is quite normal to panic a week before surgery, even the day before as well.

I did a complete panic breakdown 2 weeks before surgery, and now decided to become as informed as possible by reading books and websites, (especially this one). I have been on the phone most of the day with my insurance company, the doctor, and hospital to make sure everything is in order. I have already did my pre-op with the hospital. I am also busily preparing the house, my recovery room, stocking up on food and supplies, etc. to make things go smoothly. Not overdoing it, but doing what is necessary.

Just keep yourself busy and you will feel more in control.

I call my fibroid Lope. It's short for cantaloupe since the doctor said its the size of a melon.

thanks.....

Wahlsrene, thanks for your reply to the freak-out! It makes me feel more at ease with the surgery for the moment. Everyone has given me such good advice that it warms my heart.... Now to answer your question on Reiki. It's an old Oriental art of healing. It involves a hands-on healing techique that balances, realigns energy and activates your own healing powers. You use it to reduce stress, increace energy, focus and it also enhances creativity. It's recommended as a treatment before & after surgery. I belong to a Reiki healing circle that meets every Tuesday, and a few of the practioners are going to help with my treatmnets before and after the hysterectomy. Hope this helps you understand Reiki...if you're interested in more about the art..my group leader has a web site: CenterofLivingLight.org, her name is Robin. Thanks and keep in touch....it's 6 days and counting to the BIG day!!! Peace to you.......Bunnykins

the name game

To JoaineZZZ and mlweeman...it's great to see that we all have names for the silly tumors! I also noticed that you're surgery dates are coming up soon as well. Let's keep in touch as the dates grow near and support each other. And hey mlweeman, I see that you're from Maine. My husband is too. Peace and love sisters.......Bunnykins

today's the day

Okay SISTERS....I'm getting ready to head to the hospital. Today's the day of my surgery...I feel a bit more calm then the last couple of days. Most of the past days were working days for me but I think that helped keep my mind off the things I can't control! Last weekend I spent with friends, enjoying good food, great music and wonderful friendships. Tuesday I had my Reiki circle, lots of peace and energy there......it's helping me though this. So, when I get home, I'll let you all know my feelings and experiences.......peace to you all Bunnykins
