severe gastroenteritis following hysterectomy
2 days in the hospital for surgery, 1 night at home, then back to ER for severe diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, dehydration. I stayed there 5 days and had every test in the book -- norovirus, cdiff, gall bladder, CT, endoscopy, colonoscopy; all negative. symptoms resolved, but now I still feel like I've been hit by a train. I imagined that 2 weeks after surgery I would be doing very well. The worst is absolutely no energy. Also no appetite, weepy, and achy. I had a ruptured appendix 2 years ago and was good to go after 2 weeks, thought this would be the same. ... Just need to vent. I want to feel normal! I read on here about people going back to work after 2 weeks and feeling great. I have lost 10 pounds, but still can't wear my pants and it even hurts to wear a bra. Thanks for giving me a place to vent.

Re: severe gastroenteritis following hysterectomy
Hugs to you mivi! You have been through a lot both physically and emotionally. It's normal to feel the way you are feeling. While some women are returning to work at 2 weeks, this is not the norm. I was off work for 8 weeks and had a very difficult time returning even then. For my first week home I felt like I had been hit by a truck. Everything hurt, I couldn't get comfortable, I couldn't sit for more than a few minutes and I cried constantly. I couldn't handle even loose PJ pants around my hugely swollen belly.
A hysterectomy is a major surgery. You have had an organ removed, which included a major artery, and had ligaments cut and re-attached. Some of us have hundreds of stitches inside us. There is a lot of healing going on inside you. Getting so sick immediately post op must have been brutal. Try to drink lots of water, eat small healthy foods and rest, rest, rest. I'm glad you came here to vent, that's what we're here for! I really hope you feel better soon!
