Rash 3 weeks post op - histamine intolerance? UPDATED

Hi ladies
I am hoping somebody can tell me of they have experienced this. I am 3 and a half weeks lavh and kept my remaining ovary. My consultant thinks my ovary may have failed as I am having hot flushes. The last 3 days I have had a rash develop over various parts of my body, it comes and goes and seems to be if I knock or brush a part of me, or lightly scratch an itch it comes up in angry red lines - I have googled this and it could be histamine intolerance I understand as you can get that in the menopause.
I will be having a blood test next week to see if I am in the menopause but in the meantime just wondered if anybody was aware of this?

Thanks very much x

Re: Rash 3 weeks post op - histamine intolerance?

I'm curious what happened with your tests? Did they find out if you're in menopause? I've been getting hives when anything touches my skin since week 2 but my doctor didn't seem to think this was connected to my surgery. I don't agree since this has only happened since the surgery.

Hi there.

My hormones tests were fine I am not going into the menopause.

It appears it's dermographia and I am on stronger anti histimine tablets from my doctor. I have read that you can develop dermographia as a result of any surgery. My doctor is going to speak to a dermotologist to see what they suggest.

Hope you get some relief soon

Thanks little bear! I'm glad you got some answers and hopefully relief. I will ask my doctor about this because these hives are annoying.

You can also develop dermographia as a result of stress. I routinely get it during tax season because that's a high-stress time at work for me. For me, OTC anti-allergy tablets do the job. I usually buy Reactine. Claritin, Allegra or Aerius would probably work as well.

For topical relief, I like Benadryl gel. Hydrocortisone cream also works.

Thanks, I did think about stress but when I started to develop the dermographia I was very chilled out and relaxed and to be honest in denial about what I had been through so I don't think it's stress in my case x

Ah, but you had recently been through a psychologically and physically stressful experience: surgery.

I understand where you are coming from, but from a mental point of view I was not stressed, it was my 3rd surgery in 18 months and I took it all in my stride and was surprisingly relaxed about it all, it was only after that mentally I was stressed about it all.

I don't know, the body is a funny thing so could be either I guess! x
