TVH and recovery question
Hello everyone! I have a question regarding recovery time after a TVH. Short BG... Gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago. All fine except for extreme anemia that crept up on me the past year (headaches led to bloodwork that landed me in hospital for 4 days getting 5 units of blood and iron infusion). To combat anemia I am having the TVH to stop severe bleeding every month.
My husband travels for work but is taking 2 weeks to be home with me. Will this be enough time? I have three kids (9, 7, 2). I know I have lifting restrictions, etc. driving is the biggest thing. I can bypass the lifting and housework (my 9 year old is awesome and loves to sweep LOL). I have friends and family who can come over and help with stuff in the evenings and hubby is home on weekends. And I have a cleaning service that comes and deep cleans every 3 weeks or so. The 2 year old can get in and out of her carseat by herself and will shower with me (walk in shower) so I can bypass lifting her. I guess I just need reassurance that I will be able to care for the kids with a few adjustments. Hubby hates that he has to go back, but this is a pivotal time in his career and I am pushing for him to go.

Re: TVH and recovery question
It sounds fine to me. I had a TVH, no kids, but I felt pretty good. You seem to have the details all worked out. I think if your recovery stays on track, it should all work out. Best wishes for an easy recovery.

Re: TVH and recovery question
I think you can do it. You'll just have to put aside any ideas of perfection and go with the flow. Do you have some quiet time activities for the kids to do while you rest? After the second week you should be able to prepare easy meals. You won't feel like making huge elaborate meals. My crockpot was a good friend. Sounds like you have the rest all thought out. Happy healing!

Re: TVH and recovery question
I have a 11, 9 and will be 7 the day after my surgery year olds. I would be most worried about the 2 year old because they still like to be picked up or sit in your lap. My 11 year old can cook (daddy taught her, he rocks ) so I feel good about at least me getting fed. The house will probably look like a disaster until I'm healed but I'll survive, or at least selectively not look at it. My husband is taking 3 days off and working from home the following week. I'm expecting to be back to driving kiddos by week 3 hopefully week 2. I also plan to take a nap every afternoon. My kids are old enough to be safe and keep themselves entertained for 1-2 hours while I nap. Since your 2 year old isn't and a 9 year old isn't really old enough to properly care for a 2 year old, hopefully yours still naps and you can grab a nap when she does. All my kids gave up their naps by 2 so I'd be hurting. Good luck and have plenty of movies for the kids to watch while you rest.

Re: TVH and recovery question
I had a TVH on July 3rd and am doing great so far. No kids, but a 14 lb cat! (just 1 lb under my lifting restrictions so I haven't picked her up but a couple times and very carefully). Dr. said 1-2 weeks before driving, as long as I was off the perscription pain pills at least 48 hours Thankfully I have not had to use them at all since I came home, which was the morning after surgery! So, I think I'm ready to try it this week - people in my city drive like maniacs, so that's whats been keeping me from driving so far. Sounds like you have an excellent plan in place for afterwards. Just like what was mentioned above, listen to your body and rest as much as you can once you get home and you'll be fine. At not quite 2 weeks for myself, I already have to keep reminding myself not to do as much as I think I can. So that will be key, even if you feel up to doing a lot, try not to worry about the housework or anything like that, it isn't going anywhere. (Although, I wish it would just magically do itself, but I wished that before the surgery!!) Good Luck with your surgery, with your plans, I think you will be just fine!!
