Morcellation cancer risk in laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy

Hi there,

I had the morcellating LSH surgery on Sept. 10 2013, after nearly two years of researching non-surgical alternatives to the symptoms of the fibroid (10cm) and enlarged uterus. The surgery has been hugely successful and I was very happy with everything until I read the awful story of what has happened to Amy Reed. The doctor who treated me NEVER discussed the risk of morcellating if the tumors turned out to be occult cancer. I am horrified that such a procedure can be used without truly informed consent. Would I have gone ahead with the surgery? Maybe, but I would have pushed harder for pre-op testing. What do others feel? I am heartened by the article on this site about the procedure (and the relatively low risks) but I am furious that this was not discussed prior to the operation.
