Gyn & Hospital Pre-op Orders - Long!!

Saw the GYN, had the pelvic, he answered all my questions. Made an appointment for a month after surgery.
I'm so calm, I'm freaking myself out!
Walked down to admitting, turned in the paperwork for the surgeries. Recieved the Fleet's saline enema, betadine douche, and a breathing aid. (spirometer?) Went over to the lab, gave urine and had blood taken, easy as pie! Strolled through the gift shop and found a Tigger I like. I hope he'll keep me company in the hosp! :-D
So on Friday, I call to confirm all the times on Monday for surgery. I go in, get dressed, have the iv for fluids, as hydration really helps recovery. Then they add the pre-op drugs (anti-nausea) and I get to drift off.
Things have changed so much ladies, it's AWESOME!
You can actually have clear liquids at my hospital, including black coffee up till 4 hours before surgery. I'm not, but that threw me!
You are monitored by heart, blood and REM sleep, so they know you're under. I'm having around 4 hours, so I'm having the general.
I'm having the uterus, cervix, ovaries and tubes removed, no bladder work. I get the pathology report in about 4 days after surgery. I get demerol and probably percocet depending on what the plastic and GYN decide. My GYN is leaving it up to the plastic surgeon, they work well together, he refers to him by his first name, never "dr".
I was told to take very little to the hospital, I'm expected to get up and get back to a regular diet as soon as I can. I have directions on how to cough, the before and after expectations of abdominal hyst in a schedule form, and 24 hour numbers if any nurse advice is needed after.
I'll have the surgical stockings, pressure splints to aid in circulating blood in the legs, will be shaved, have a catheter, and encouraged to have water..a lot of it.
Water hydrates and helps the skin to heal, plus it helps in keeping you from getting constipated.
I'm having a patch put on immediately, getting a medium dose of estrogen, and should be on pills by the end of the surgery week.
I have a car trip to a brunch at a haunted inn planned for
three weeks afterward, in addition to Valentines Day and my daughter's 13th birthday. (I'm ready for both. Actually, I did it in case of anything happening to me, so hubby is prepared.)
I'm so excited and scared, so I'll visit here and lurk. Still have baking to do, house cleaning to do. My last orer was to take really good care of myself, if I have a cough, it's hard to get comfy after surgery. It's only days away..waiting IS the hardest!!

My goodness, Linda, you really have done your homework! You seem to know what to expect every step of the way. I know it's enough to make you freak, but you'll be fine. (I know, easy for me to say) I'm sure we'll be hearing more from you before Monday, but I hope you can have your dh leave a message after your surgery to let us know how everything went. Best wishes,

Thanks Linda, I have never stayed in a hospital much less had surgery and yet I am pretty calm about my upcoming surgery--that might change though once I actually get a surgery date and it gets closer. Reading your post has helped me a great deal. Thanks!
