TAH BSO with Bladder sling...self-cath. after ?

I'm having a TAH BSO (just found out what that stands for) with a sling procedure in 2 days. I know I have to have a catheter and probably longer than some due to the sling but my doc says I will have to learn how to insert the catherter (nurses will teach me before I leave the castle) at home when needed! Yikes! And I thought the testing for the pure-stress-incontinence was bad. I can't imagine doing that to myself! Doc said some women even learn to do it for use in a public restroom! Please someone tell me I don't need to be as freak-out about this as I am?

Hmmm... I wonder if they can send you home with a Foley bag. In my hysterectomy, my bladder had gotten punctured, so with the repair, I was sent home withe Foley to allow my bladder time to heal. It was in for two straight weeks. When I left the hospital, all the nurse had to do was switch the end of my catheter's hose to a bag that was strapped to the inside of my leg. The bag had a little spiggot at the bottom. So, when the bag was full, I simply put my foot up on the edge of the toilet, made sure the spittot was pointed at the water, and opened it up. It quickly drained, and I was good to go for several more hours.

I didn't have to do anything else, except return to the doctor's office for a check-up on my bladder's healing. The nurse removed it then, and that was easy.
