Davinci 4 Days Post-op

I cannot believe that I had my surgery Tuesday afternoon. I am up and moving, just not over doing it, thanks to my mom and husband.

The worst part of the surgery was that it started about 2 hours after the scheduled time - I was the last hyster of the day. My head was pounding from not eating or having any caffeine. The surgery was about 2 hours and I was in recovery for another hour and a half.

I remember getting into my room and getting settled in (around 8:30 pm). I had a catheter in and I have never had one before. That was interesting, but at that point in time, I did not care about any of that. My husband and mom only stayed for about half an hour afterwards and then I went to sleep. I slept on and off all night, never for more than about 2 hours at a time. I have a large chest and lying on my back really hurt, the weight of my breasts was horrible. (I am usually a side or stomach sleeper.) I tried lying on my side and that felt better for about an hour, but something got kinked in the catheter and the nurse had to fix it. I asked her to help me get a bra on afterwards and then I was good and slept for about 3 hours straight.

I got the catheter removed at 6:30 and 15 minutes later, I was up walking the halls. I felt a little unbalanced, but I did well. I was determined to get moving so that I could go home as soon as possible. The nurse walked with me the first time and the rest I went on my own. It felt really great to get up. I also could not believe how much water I was drinking! That felt really good too. I had my last morphine around 6:00 am and I did not take any of my vicodin until about 1:00pm after I got home.

The ride home was not too bad, better than I expected. My husband ran out and got me a body pillow because I decided it would be helpful when I slept in our bed. It really has been great and also helps keeps our cats from laying on me!

I was home alone Thursday and Friday and I did pretty well. I slept about 9 hours each night and took 2-3 hour naps each day. Lunch was just reheating something that was in the fridge. I took vicodin once a day (2 pills) and then took Motrin at other times. I also took a fiber supplement to help me "go". That did not happen until Friday night and it felt good afterwards. There was definitely a release of pressure.

My first shower was on Thursday when DH got home from work. That felt awesome! I felt like a new person. I stayed in there for a long time, just enjoying the hot water.

I was really looking forward to this surgery before hand. I was nervous about having an operation, but not about the choice to have it done. I am so glad that I did it! I am anemic and have been getting IV iron treatments since my body won't absorb the iron pills. I was bleeding so much each month that I lost the iron quickly. I can't wait until my next blood test. I should have good numbers!!

The bottom line for me is that I did what was right for me and my family. We have one son and are blessed with him. I felt completely comfortable with the procedure and my doctor. I am just so happy and blessed! I wish that everyone could feel like I do right now, so happy and peaceful.
