Anxious countdown...

I just received a phone call from my doctor's office who told me that they can do my surgery next Tuesday, December 4th!

At first I thought I was fine with all of this and then those thoughts start to race through your mind, like wow, this came fast, am I ready for this, what still needs to be done around the house, will the family be ok without me around, am I putting too much pressure on my hubby?

Sometimes I think so much that it's no wonder that I wake up the next morning feeling so unrested and with a migraine

For those of you on your countdowns as well, I feel like we are all wearing the same pair of shoes right now. What are/have any of you ladies done to relax yourselves prior to the big date? I could use some suggestions. Why do I feel so guilty about leaving the chores up to my hubby and son?

With the holidays upon us I feel so overwhelmed!!

Anxious countdown...

I found that staying really busy helped me when I was waiting for my surgery. It kept me from dwelling on the "what if's " and tired me so that I could sleep at night. It also helped get my house in shape
I took long relaxing baths right before bedtime - that helped.

I think that the feelings of guilt are because we're used to being care-givers instead of being taken care of. Try to realx some and enjoy some pampering - you deserve it.

I am feeling the exact same way as you right now. You know we should be able to take care of ourselves and not feel guilty about burdening our husbands... they are adults too (sometimes) so they are going to be ok! We can do this! I wake up each day feeling totally exhausted, my brain has a life of it's own, it just won't stop thinking about this surgery no matter what I do. I wish my doc would call and schedule me early, I'm ready for this to be over.

You're feeling a lot of the things I've been feeling (I'm not sure that my family is up to the chores). So what I've been doing is making lots of lists.

Lists for what I need. Lists of what questions to ask. Lists of tasks. Lists of phone numbers. Charts. Calendars.

(By the way, our surgeries are the same day!)

I am another with the same countdown as you. Like Tam said I have list everywhere. I think it gives me a little bit of control over all of this. I already have my things packed. I have a small bag to hook to the bed rail and another larger overnite bag. I have almost gotten all of my Christmas shopping done but I think dh can pick up the little things I have left (OK I don't want people getting post it notes or something crazy so hopefully I will be able to go out one day before Christmas) I also fixed my schedule so I am working tonight, Sat, and Sunday night. I work 12hr shifts so hopefully this will help the time pass. As for guilt, I think that its normal. I went and bought dh a book that he had been wanting and have it wrapped and packed in the overnight bag. I will give it to him right before I go into surgery so he has something to pass the time. Best of luck to you. I hope that all of our surgeries get here quickly and go smootly.

Anxious countdown...

I am starting to go a little crazy now that mine is getting closer. Thank goodness I work 40hrs a week or I would be a wreck.
Right now I am focusing on getting the house organized and cleaned for the blessed event. Teaching my girls how to do certain things around the house like laundry. DH can't do this because he is color blind and I end up with pink bra's.
I will pack next weekend!

Anxious countdown...

Hi, new to the site and I just received my notice yesterday that I have a date for 12/20. I am taking advantage of Hubby and son out for winter break so they can help me. What helps so far is that I am in an office where I am surrounded by women who have already been through this and all of them say they are so glad they had their surgeries. I guess the thing that scares me the most is hormones.

Anxious countdown...

Hello Ladies,

Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts and advice. One day at a time right? That seems to be thought that I wake up and go to bed with. Soon this will all be over with and we can all move on to better days that lay ahead.

Gizybear, thank you for the giggle. Japennington and iluv2digiscrap, I will be thinking of both of you the day that we go in. I hope everything goes well for all of us, including those of you who are scheduled in the coming weeks.

Hang in there girls, the countdown is almost over. I will be looking for you all after I return from surgery to see how everyone is doing.
