Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Nov 15, 2015
I don't know what the diagnostic differences are between endometriosis and adeno; I think doc suspects adenomyosis based on my age...? Then again, she said she couldn't guarantee my ovaries would be ok, and I don't think adeno typically affects ovaries...?
Good luck to you!

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Nov 15, 2015
My thoughts are with all of you and thanks for sharing. I'm Lisa, 48, and my TAH is on Wednesday. I've been thru lots of emotions but other than fear of being under and pain (I'm a control freak) I'm looking forward to relief. My fibroid went undiagnosed for years and is now so large I'm having trouble breathing. I sure hope they weigh the **** thing!!

I totally identify with you on this. I'm also having my op on Tuesday morning (although I may be in a different time-zone from you as I'm in the UK!). I'm quite thankful to be working all day tomorrow as it'll take my mind off everything. I had great intentions about cleaning my house, but don't seem to have got very far. Oh well, I don't normally have a sparkling clean house, so why start now? Wishing you all the best xx

Hi, my procedure is on Thursday at 7:30 am. I am a 36 yr old mom of 4, I had very fast labors which lead to my pelvic floor essentially collapsing. My youngest is 7, it's just this past year it has got really bad.
I can't cough or sneeze without peeing. My uterus is so prolapsed that when I lie down you can see my cervix. My bladder and rectum are both protruding into my vagina.
I am having a total abdominal hysterectomy with sacrocolpopexy.
So essentially they're going to suture my vagina to my tailbone and my bladder to the front of my pelvis, all done via abdominal incision.
I am so nervous. I am so scared that I will wake up and desperately want another baby and be unable to have one. Right now I am very content with the 4 we have, it's just a fear. I am only 36 and because my symptoms came on gradually my mind views this as an "optional" procedure. The rational part of my head says I could never have more kids anyway, that the uterus has to go. I am so stressed out and terrified of the pain.
I am also scared of the bowel prep, I've done it before for colonscopies and it's always been a nightmare. TMI, but I usually end up having accidents because of the rectal prolapse.
Really scared

Hi Lulutreewoman!
The handle comes mostly from my love of pioneer stories and the Little House books when I was a kid- but also because a few years ago my life really fell apart and I had to believe that I had some of the same qualities that the pioneers had, in order to put things back together- which for me included meeting and marrying my current DH and moving to a different country! (Canada to the US)
Thanks for your help and advice, you are all awesome!

What a great group of sister we already have here. I am so proud of how supportive you already are of each other. And the way you are staying so up beat even though many of you are worrying. Soon this part will be over and you can all concentrate on healing.
The CO2 gas will be helped by moist heat around neck and shoulders and walking. I was careful to walk to the bathroom or just up on my feet for a few minutes every hour and had very little pain. It is used to help make space for them to work so I believe it is used in the vaginal surgery also. And the pain after will depend on how well they are able to remove it. But to be sure ask your Dr. And that brings me to the point that if you are unsure about anything just ask your Dr or the assistant. There will also be a prep nurse before surgery who will answer some questions. Mine was great. The intestinal gas that will be helped by using GasX is from the stress of anesthesia and a day or so of not eating. As you start back on normal food your tummy will have a hard time digesting things. This of course will very for each of you. Those who already have these issues be prepared. This was a bit of a challenge for me.
As you all move into this week of surgeries some sooner than others, I just want to say how honored I am to be able to share your journey. Many will have ups and downs but I can see right now that you are starting out with the can do attitude that will help you all.
Hugs,
Anndy

I have been struggling with being anxious about tomorrow. One of my best friends is a Naturalpathic doctor and midwife. She is so loving and supportive, and is giving me supplements to help. Her husband is a surgeon. Before the surgery I am taking Rescue Remedy that I bought at Whole Foods and GABA. After surgery she has other goodies in mind in addition to Rx. Meds. I think they are helping, but it may be a combination of things is helping (such as this group, and a husband who is vacuuming while I read. ).
