Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?
I kept my ovaries and here's why:
I'm 50 years old, but not in menopause yet. I have a significant family history of osteoporosis and already have osteopenia. Studies show that ovaries continue to produce hormones until 65 or maybe even longer. I figure I need whatever estrogen I can get.
I think each of us has to look at our own risk factors. I don't have a family history of reproductive cancers and my fear of ovca is very low. But after watching my female relatives suffer from the crippling effects of osteoporosis, my fears of losing my ovaries is very, very high. I was very happy when my surgeon agreed that my ovaries should stay if at all possible.
I will take hrt if at all possible as well.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?
I had my TAH on 11th of April due to Adenomyosis.. During the procedure they also found multiple small fibroids. I am soo glad to have had it done..
YES! I was able to keep both of my ovaries as they were quite healthy.. And I really wasn't looking forward to being on HRT at the age of 30.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?
I voted, I kept one ovary. I on, had one ovary when I had my hysteretomy. I had an ovary removed in 1978 because it had a large fibroid tumor on it, so I lost both the tube and ovary. During my hysterectomy, my dr wanted to remove the other ovary, but because it was covered with endometriosis. he couldn't get at it, so i still have the second ovary.,

I had surgery Monday april 30. The doctor said my ovaries looked great. So he left them. He said natural hormones are always the better choice in his book!

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?
I'm only 28 so my doctor and I decided if they looked healthy he would leave them be. I thankfully got to keep mine. I wasn't ready for surgical menopause.
