Anyone with Mirena IUD?

I had mine put in about 18 months ago because I needed to stop the pill, had heavy peroids, and endo. Then, I turned insulin resistant (partly from the progesterone in Mirena), gained 40 pounds, probably PCOS, too (not confirmed).... Now, my doc said let's get you off the hormones.... So, just a simple tubal ligation wasn't an option, becuase the pain, bleeding, and endo would come back within months. So, now I'm scheduled for LSH/BSO/bladder tack(?)....on Aug 23rd. Just wondering if there are any other hystersisters out there who had a similar experience with Mirena?

Anyone with Mirena IUD?

I was very interested to hear about the effects of Mirena.
I had a different side effect - over 3 years with Mirena my fibroid grew from ping pong ball to rugby ball size . I put my weight probs down to the fibroid....
A friend was told that Mirena caused the lump in her breast - another side effect they forgot to mention.

I have to say that I feel much better since the surgery, the Mirena did its job but I was never happy with it.

Good luck with your procedure and best wishes for a good recovery.

oops

I had Mirena for about a year. My firbroids also grew, but not quite as much as Liz's did!

I had horrid periods the entire time the Mirena was in, my body finally rejected it (literally!) in March of this year. Prior to that, I was missing work monthly and nearly needed blood transfusions on several occassions. Intercourse was midly painful for at least a week during each month and there was alway slight bleeding the day after an orgasm. My Gyn never said that the Mirena was at fault, but I did see in her notes when I got a copy of all my medical records that she considered the Mirena to have been the cause of most of my problems!

I didn't gain weight, but my weight loss from gastric bypass came to a screeching halt! Good news is that since the Mirena is gone, my weight loss has continued.

I would not ever recommend the Mirena to anyone based on my personal experience.

Thank you both!

Not sure if I have fibroids. Aunt Flo from my periods has nearly stopped, though the pain hasn't!!! I'm scared but looking foward to feeling much better after I recover from my LSH/BSO. :-)
