3 months post...still have pain - anyone else?

Just got back from the docs office. She seems to think that it is unusual to have pain this far out (surgery was 8/8). It hurts to have anything against my lower abdomen, like pants or a seat belt. The whole area hurts although there is an area on the left and right side that hurt more esp when I overdue it.

I was feeling pretty good a few weeks ago and started to do some exercises and went back to work as a personal trainer and it set me back. Am I alone? Also, I have been crying a lot lately, so she increased my premerin. Hope it helps!

It takes a very long time to "completely" heal. Very long.......I remember that feeling of pressure on my abdomen for a good long time. Of course I am 4 years out yesterday but all of that seems not long ago for me. It took like 8 or 9 months to get back to feeling almost normal. A lot went on inside your body and pieces and parts inside now have to find new locations to sit where they use to sit on your uterus etc. Everything has to find new homes and it takes a long time to get settled. Also, everything was hacked into. So you have to give it a very long rest and allow the healing process to work with out putting your body through a work out. Your body will tell you when you have done too much and I think that is what is happening in your case. Although I am not a doctor, just an experienced hystersister!!!!! Good Luck!

I'm almost 6 months out and still won't wear the lap part of my seat belt. I also still swell between 1 and 2 pants sizes throughout the day.

I'm hoping time really does heal all wounds. My dr isn't sympathetic or helpful at all -- kind of a "suck it up/it's not that bad" combo.

Still In Pain

Dear Yeabebe:

I understand about the pain-I am four weeks out and having my post-op today and still need my pain meds! With the amount of distress you are having, there is no reason not to go ahead and call your doctor and talk with him/her. The conversation and possible office visit is going to help you and if you feel something is not right with YOUR body, you have every right to call and discuss your concerns!

I wish you all the very best in your recovery!!

i'm also 4 weeks out and having a horrible day today. back on pain meds and crying. sometimes i feel well enough to do something like a walk or go to a movie but i pay for it later so i don't even trust my own judgement now. it's comforting and discouraging to hear how long it really takes to heal. i wonder if the doctors read what we write on this site? they need a dose of our reality.

anomar, I still have pressure and minimal pain, but the biggest problem I am having is fatigue. I shopped today was out for about 5 hours and now I am totally wiped. The same when I get home from work. I am in bed and asleep by 9 p.m. I am afraid to excercise because my stomach muscles feel so strange. I just don't know~ I keep a positive attitude that one day I will feel good. And, this is what I hope for you too!

You know what everyone? One day we will feel normal again. I am 3 months out and just recently started walkig. Walked 3 miles and the last week or so had be abd pain. I actually took pain pills which i haven't for along time! I think evryone is different and heals the same in some ways and differnt in others. Hand in there, think positve and keep your chins up. Take life easier, and be good to yourselves, it will all get back to the way it was soon. Rest and be patient.

Believe me girls...it will get better. I can so-o-o relate to so many of you. i thought i would never see the day when I felt like my old self, but i am getting there and it is worth the wait. I'm on the "give myself a year" plan. For example, right now my surgery site feels funny/kind of hurts. But then on other days I totally forget about it. I recently have had several days where I could exercise, but then I have to stop for a while becauses things feel irritated. My progress has been very slow, but there has been progress. And when I have those moments where everything feels great, it is amazing and wonderful. Just keep the priorities in life straight and don't try to hurry the healing process...I know, easier said than done, but it WILL get better. I would never lie to you about this!!!! :-)
