Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

Hello ladies,
Anyone here had to recover from both surgeries? My doctor couldn't remove the uterus laproscopically because of scar tissue from my c-section and some endometriosis so had to do the lateral incision AS WELL! I am now post op week 3, frustrated, have vaginal discharge with all sorts of colours and I need to return to work after just 2more weeks! I'm feeling really blue.

Re: Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

Wow! You've really had a time of it. I didn't have the lateral , just laproscopic and vaginal. It can be overwhelming trying to take it easy and heal knowing you have to go back to work. And depressing! I've been there. When I went back to work , I came home and tried my best to lay in the recliner or on couch and do nothing. This is where your support team will have to step in again if they can. Hopefully , you will have help. Good luck and take it as easy as you can.

Re: Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

My case sounds exactly like yours. He spent an hour trying to do it laproscopic and my bladder was fused to my c-section scarred uterus, so he did it abdominally. Now I have bruises/scars in my navel and either side of my belly as well as the abdominal incision. I'm hoping it doesn't make recovery any harder.

Re: Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

Ladies I have lap and bikini cut. I had complications with the fibroid growing around my bowel, so we had to convert to open surgery on the table. I'm almost 6 weeks and will be returning to my desk job next week. So I understand we are recovering from almost two different surgeries. My lap incisions had much more bruising than the bikini cut and depending on the week, my pain and soreness would move from one incision to the next. I felt great with one then the other one would start and so forth. I kept my ovaries but they definitely were shocked and had all sorts of emotions. I kept my cervix so discharge was light pink, then kind of yellow the first few weeks. I think if you have a cuff it's going to shed more cells as its healing and you'll get more discharge. I will also get discharge again if I push myself to much. I see you had TAH, so have you started hrt? That can be a factor in your moods. Call your dr if you continue to feel depressed.

Re: Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

My doc started out laprascopic but after just 5 mins of looking around and attempting to remove a portion of bowel adhered to uterus, he realized he had to do TAH. I have one umbilical incision and 6 inch vertical. I didn't have much vaginal problems with discharge..just mild spotting. Incision sites ar*****e. I'll be 6 weeks Monday and feeling pretty good! Started feeling better at 4 weeks. I was back in Hosp 30 hrs after discharge for another 6 days with c diff...think that set me back. I go back to doc Aug 27 ..at 4 weeks the vaginal cuff wasn't healed. Other then tiring easy ...I'm good! I did nothing though for the first 4 weeks

Re: Laproscopic AND abdominal total hysterecomy

Hello again ladies! Nice to know I am not alone. I am entering week 5 and starting to feel more myself. Discharge has all but stopped. I still have pain around the incision, tire really easily and morning gas is wicked but otherwise quite funtional. I had my cervix removed as well and my GP told me (surgeon didn't bother) that they were precancerous cells so good job she did remove it! I am on hrt since day one. I think my slow recovery was more the reason for the blues. Feeling much more on track and see the Doc Wednesday to see if I can go back to work part time. A friend has also said he would lend me an electric wheel chair!
