After 5 opinions - roid is void

I just had a LSH on Monday April 18 and today is day 5 of recovery. I cannot believe how good I feel after having my uterus removed...

I want everyone to know NOT to give up after your first opinion...I went to 4 gynos - all good doctors - and they all recommended a hysterectomy (traditional with rather large incision) because I had too many/too large fibroids. After really giving up - because I did not want to go through the trauma of surgery, my friend insisted I see her doctor - the director of Mt Sinai's fibroid center here in NYC. I reluctantly made an appt (she really kept pestering me) and he told me he could do a LSH...I did not believe him....even showed him my MRI after a second consultation - and just waited for him to tell me to forget the whole thing after seeing just how many fibroids I had and how large....he still thought he could do it - but of course did not guarantee during surgery if it became complicated, he would have to do the incision. After surgery, I was sure he had to make the incision and he proved me wrong! I had over 50 fibroids! did not break the record, but he was able to remove my uterus and "roids" (my nickname for my fibroids) laparoscopically...and it is day 5 of recovery and I really feel good - still some pain, but totally manageable...and I've been off pain killers for two days!

What really convinced me to do this procedure was all the help, support and advice from my fellow hyster sisters' experiences with LSH.

I want to stress - never to give up - none of my doctors even suggested this could be done by a specialist - they were all self involved with how they would treat it...never letting me know there was an alternative way. My surgeon was great, informative and professional.

So, my ROIDs are VOID...hasta la vista baby
