Re: Norco and Motrin

Just make sure you eat food with the Norco or you will get nauseous.

Re: Norco and Motrin

I'm glad you're thinking about this before your surgery, especially since this is your first time.

When I had my hysterectomy, I took Vicodin and ibuprofen. They had me "stage" my medication, which meant I alternated the drugs every three hours. Since the normal dosing was every 4-6 hours, this meant that the drugs were never completely "worn off" in my system. (For example, I'd take a Vicodin at 9 a.m., then ibuprofen at noon, then Vicodin at 3 p.m. again.)

Because of the staging of the medicines, I didn't really need anything for "breakthrough" pain. Often, they will prescribe the narcotic pain meds (like your Norco, or Vicodin, or Percoset) and have you take that medicine just when the pain gets really bad.

Be forewarned, however -- don't wait until it's unbearable to take your medication! If you do, you'll have a much harder time keeping it under control. I'm sure the nurses and docs will go through all of this with you at the hospital.

Also, it is entirely possible that you won't need much in the way of pain meds. My sister (lucky woman) took only one or two strong pain pills in the hospital and took extra-strength Tylenol the rest of the time! So you may or may not even need the strong meds.

to you. Hope this helps.

Re: Norco and Motrin

mjd2491,
Thank you. This makes sense to me. In fact this is what my doctor said she was going to do I just did not know the term. I have not had my appointment with the anesthesiologist yet so I was wondering also if when you wake up is there immediate pain or do they make sure you don't wake up in pain?
I am programing my mind and body to do this as painless as possible. I have never had children so I cannot gauge the pain to expect. i have had horrendous menstrual cramps in the past and with pain meds I managed. I guess i have so much fear because I want to know what to compare it to so I can mentally prepare.
Thank you,
Sarva
