Red face - Rectocele and cystocele repair coming soon! Rectocele and cystocele repair coming soon!

I had my TAH back in 2002. I was a bad girl and didn't do the kegels that are suggested and now I am paying for it.
I made the decision to have surgery last summer, but ran out of time.(I work in a school and have summers off) I have an appointment with my Dr. this week and will most likely have the repairs done. Reading some of these posts are scaring me and I realize I need information before my appt. so I can ask appropriate questions. My recovery from my TAH was uneventful and I feel it was a breeze. For some reason, I am more nervous about this upcoming surgery.
Please reply with your experiences, and where to look for more information. Was a foley needed after the surgery? It looks like BM's are painful??
Thanks everyone!
Jen

Rectocele and cystocele repair coming soon!

Jen,
Don't beat yourself up overly much about not doing the kegels. That may not have contributed to the problem now. I've always been faithful about doing kegels and still have the rectocele issue going on. Kegels do indeed help so start doing them even now. Kathie (one of the great sisters here) had wonderful results with kegels and PT helping her cystocele. You may want to look into that before doing surgery.

I've not had a repair yet, still recovering from hyster. and trying to figure out what exactly is going on with my innards. So I can't help much with the recovery question.
This is a great place to get information though. Type in on the forum search rectocele &/or cystocele recovery and you should find lots of threads.

Good luck! LJC

How do I find the forum search? It has been 5 years since I have been on here and have forgotten how to find things.

Jen,
On the page that lists the threads for this forum. Just below the pink tab for new topics, is a pale bar that states the forum name. On the right side of that bar are two tabs. The first is "forum tools", the second tab is "search this forum". Click on that and a box opens below it to type in your search. Good Luck!

Jen everyones situation is different as are surgeries I think the biggest problems you will have are the restrictions you will get. Are you going to see a Uro/Gyn they usually deal with prolabses and such. I am doing pretty good one issue I will discuss with Dr. tomorrow but I had very minimal pain after my surgery. I wish you lots of luck ...Chin Up

Jen, I agree with LJC, if you do a Forum Search you'll find lots of helpful information, stories of other's experiences both good and bad. None of this takes the place of writing down your questions and talking to your Dr about your concerns. The more well read you are on the subject the more comfortable you'll feel making educated decisions about your care.

LJC,
Thanks for your reply, but I am not finding a "search this forum" tab. I see the "forum tools". Is there any other way to find it? Sorry, I am computer illiterate.

Rectocele and cystocele repair coming soon!

I don't think kegals would have prevented my prolapses, they are up higher than a kegal can help - so don't blame yourself.
I went to Hysterectomy options, then picked (in the middle right) 'Options Resources' - Prolapse - there are all the articles about prolapse. The site has changed, it took me several minutes to find it and I have been there many times. Good Luck. Hugs.

Okay Jen,
Not sure what's up with your screen, since mine has a "search this forum" tap right next to the tools one. Make sure you're on the Pelvic Floor & Bladder Issues Forum home page. Below the button for "new topics", there is a pale blue/purple bar across it. On the left side it says what forum you're on. On the right there should be TWO "tabs" (not really separate tabs per say but titles). The furthest right (last one) is the "search this forum" title.

Another way: Near the top but not at the top of each page is a purple bar. At the start of the bar is has "user CP",... The 6th choice over from the left is also a "Search". It has a little Lt. blue triangle next to it. Click on that and the search line will open. It will do the same thing.

If you still can't find it, contact one of the hostesses.

This is really strange. It looks like I'm looking at a totally different screen. On the purple bar, there are only 4 choices-User CP, Calendar,Quick links, and log out.
