Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

Well it has been 1 year since my total hyst and I have the hip pain also. It's not quite as bad but still can not lay on my right side for very long at all...maybe 5 minutes at the most. This is very disappointing.

Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

This seems to be a very common problem. To bad our surgeons didnt feel it important enough to bring it up prior to surgery.

Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

If you had both of your ovaries removed then your pain is probably hormonal. Lack of estrogen affects your bones/joints and muscles. You may need HRT.

Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

I had my LAVH/BOS on 7/28. When I got home to shower, I noticed my left hip & upper thigh felt numbish like after you have been to the dentist and the novacaine is wearing off. When I rub it, it feels like there is a deep muscle bruise. Because of some posts, I wasn't overly concerned but did call my Doc today. She hasn't called back yet but I wanted to let her know about it and ask at what point should I be concerned. I wouldn't mind going to my chiropractor but I know he isn't going to want to be adjusting my hips and lower back this soon after surgery. It really isn't painful, just noticable and annoying.

musicluvr,
did you have your ovaries removed? Is so, then your pain is probably from lack of estrogen. Ask your Dr. about this. There are a lot of women out there that have these issues after a hysterectomy. I tried going 4 months without any HRT, but I have feet, hip, shoulder and hand pain and can't take it anymore. My Dr. finally put me on estradiol. Hopefully, I will find some relief. I just started it today.

Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

I did have my ovaries removed and she put the estrogen patch on the next day. I haven't had any menopause symptoms. I've noticed posts regarding low potassium but have been taking that for years bcuz of my HBP medication. Oddly, it doesn't feel quite so bad this AM but I just got up. Doc hasn't called yet.

Re: Hip Pain after Hysterectomy Connection?

My pain has been in my left hip and down my left leg. I have been seeing a chiro, ortho, and therapist. All think it may have been from the positioning during surgery.

I have done the same but none of the docs seem to have a real solution. I have just learned to deal with it. Had no idea that this would be a side effect of this surgery.

It isn't so awful that I can't function, but it is bothersome. And my surgeries were on July 15, 2008 so it's been a couple of months. The doctors just say it will go away. Of course I was very bruised back there initially, because they go in through the back when they attach the sling, but it still hurts. I was wondering if they attached the sling into my pelvic bones, and since I have osteoporosis, if that is the cause of the pain? Any ideas?
That is exactly where I have my pain. Almost feels like bone on bone. I am not sure if it will ever go away. I have had this pain for over a year and a half with no real relief or solutions from doctors. I guess it is what it is. I have just learned to deal with it and try to avoid things that aggravate it further but that of course leads to more inactivity...equaling weight gain...Sigh
