Got my date

My surgery is August 7th. I am not even certain of it other than it will be abdominal due to size of uterus and that she wants to take a look at my ovaries. I have a history of cysts on past ultrasounds and at 48 year old it may be better just to lose them than to worry about ovarian cancer. I can see that I am not going to be as informationally prepared as many of you on this site as I am so far from the doctor and hospital. I have used this doctor since 1980 and have never had a reason to doubt her. We have been discussing the need for this procedure for 2 years and she has helped me to delay it as long as possible. I now have group insurance that will pay a goodly portion of the costs. Still, I am scared, and concerned about recovery. I am a single mom in rural north Arkansas with little, no family support. My son is 11 so at least I do not have a toddler to worry about.

Hi Sweetie

You have come to the right place. Now all you have to do is read a lot on this site. Do the search or pull down menu for any and all questions you might have. We aren't DRs but we can give you our experiences to look at. Since you have been talking to your DR for 2 years about this surgery it must be down to the last straw. Care after the hyst is very important. You will need to be sure that you don't lift or do anything that could hurt you inside or out. Your DS is at least old enough to take care of himself a lot. and he can be a big help after your hyst. God Bless and you will be in my .

I Am Aug 7 Too!

Hi, I'm glad you found HysterSisters. I've been on this site every day for about 4 weeks now, basically since I found out my date. I am having my surgery on the same day as you.

I am scared too, but I can tell you without a doubt, that this site is the best thing that could have happened to me. I was an absolute wreck when I first posted here. I cried all day that day. These ladies have helped me through it, and will help you through it too.

Read as many posts as you can and gather information. Write down questions and then call your doc for answers. That for me was the best part, was knowing what questions to ask.

Right now I am pretty calm. I have been busy this week so I don't have much time to think about it. I am quite sure that by this time next week I will once again be a nervous wreck.

But I know I have my sisters to give me encouragement and help me through the castle doors.

I will think of you on surgery day. Take care and good luck.

O.
