Recovery Time????

I realize it is different for everyone, but could someone give me an estimate on down time after a TAH? I mean as far as being able to leave or feel like leaving your house. My family is supposed to be going out of town approx. one week after surgery, the car ride is around 2 hrs. to get there. What do ya think? Should I tell my spouse to plan on going alone??????

Recovery Time????

Lucy, I would have been able to handle it but like you said everyone is different. I had my TAH/BSO on Oct 19th (Thursday) and I was at the mall on Monday. I didn't do anything but walk around but the more you get up and walk the better you feel. I am not sure what to tell you to do.

Recovery Time????

LucyLu, I'm still a LIW and am not talking from experience, but I wanted to point out that we will have internal as well as external stitches. And it so happens that when you sit, you are sitting at the site of the stitches. Hence, sitting in a car for a long period of time can get very uncomfortable. Furthermore, the bumps of the road are no fun for the punctured

I guess it's all up to you and how you recover. Personally, I'm not planning on leaving the house much, one week after my surgery.

Good luck

Recovery Time????

Okay, here's what I would do. Don't commit to anything. Wait until the day before the trip and see how you feel.
Your right, everyone recovers differently and basically it will be a wait and see game.
I know that isn't the answer you were looking for, but it is the most practical one.

Recovery Time????

Hi!

I am just over one week post op and really think I could handle it. I would have to sit in the back seat and be able to put my legs where I wanted to. I may have had to stop about one hour and maybe walk someplace, a rest stop or whatever for a few minutes, but I think I could ride two hours. Don't plan yet and decide after you get home and see how you are doing.

Recovery Time????

Hi there, I am 11 days post-op from a TAH and bladder repair, and I can see we all heal different. Until yesterday, I was unable to even venture outside the house. I was in a lot of pain, but I guess my pain tolerence is a lot lower than I thought, either that, or I am a big baby! n
To be honest, I have a lot of admiration (awe) for you ladies who are trecking to the mall, or on long car trips within a few days of surgery. I envy you, and wish my recovery in the earlier days had been a little easier. But, I am alright now, and sloooowly making my way into the real world! I feel like within a couple of weeks, I will be doing much better. Do only what your body allows you to, and take the 6 to 8 weeks needed to let your body heal on the inside, there is a lot of repair they did in there!! Best wishes to you, and sending gentle (((hugs))) to all of you.
Lots of love,
Ami

Recovery Time????

I would not have tried it at that time. I wanted to make sure that I was healed before I went out. It ment for me that I would not be able to see my beloved grandfather. He died last weekend and the funnerl was tuesday, before my doctors appointment! I know that he would not have wanted me to risk my health. I have been given a clean bill of health and can now get on with the joy of living!

Recovery Time????

I had to travel to my doctor's office to have my staples removed at one week post op which is a two hour drive. I was still hurting with every bump in the road and by the time I got back home I was SOOO glad. I am at 3 weeks post op now and just went out for my first venture this evening to a Christmas party...we only stayed there a couple of hours (15 minute drive) and by the time we left to come home I was more than ready. As the other ladies said it all depends on how YOU feel when the time comes...I totally agree with Kat2u...play it by ear. You will know what you can handle...just please try not to overdo it.

Recovery Time????

Hi, I don't know where you live, but I live in a major city. A two hour trip out of the city could turn into 4 with traffic. I'm all for getting out and walking, but staying close to home seems like a better idea. If you suddenly get tired and you're hours away, who needs that torture. The's always another event.

Recovery Time????

I felt really good 1 week post op. I had my TAH on 11/29. I have been off pain meds for several days now and even did some shopping yesterday. I think short car trips are fine. I don't know, even as good as I feel, that i'd try a 2 hr ride. I'd play it by ear.
