Down Today!

I can tell this is going to be a down day. At work, feeling anxious. Was so UP yesterday.

House isn't ready. Pantry isn't stocked. Still don't know where I'm going to sleep. Must make myself do floors and carpets this weekend.

Having two teens doesn't help.

Loose ends to tie up at work.

But I'd really just like to go home and pull the covers over my head.

Down Today!

s

It's ok to have down days, hun. And things will get better.

One would think that with teenagers, they should be a big help in getting the house in order, but I know how they can actually add to a mess instead.

Just take one project on at a time and concentrate on what you are currently doing. When at work, forget about home since you can't do anything about it while not there. And when at home, forget about work. A person can only do so much. Do what you can and do the most important tasks first, but what doesn't get done, doesn't get done. Learn to delegate if you haven't already.

I do understand how all this can seem overwhelming at times. I had my hyst in December & had all the decorating & Christmas shopping to do in addition to everything else. I just had to make up my mind about what was most important and not worry about what I couldn't do.

As far as where to put myself...I set up a little "camp" in the den for the daytimes. I got one of those TV tray things that are free standing and put it in front of the love seat (my most comfy place to sit was on the crack because of sore bottom) so that I wouldn't have to reach to the end table for things like my drink, remote control, phone, etc. At night, I would get in bed. DH was very nice in letting me have it by myself the first week since he was afraid of hurting me.

I had made a mad dash to the grocery store a day or two before surgery to stock up on some things. Other than that, I had learned this time to let others help. While I was still pre, when friends/family had told me to let them know if I needed anything when I got home, I told them, "yeah, bring over any leftovers when you have them". People happily brought over more food than we could eat when I got home for about 2 weeks.

If you don't have time to get the floors/carpets done, is there anyway you could get those teenagers to help or hire someone to come in and do them?

Good luck with everything.

Down Today!

You still need to rest and heal. Maybe tonight would be a good night to go home, put your feet up, watch a favorite TV show or movie, and order a pizza. Let the rest go for awhile. When I was recovering it bothered me to think about all the things that were not getting done...a wise friend said the funniest thing to me:
"If there was a fire and you were running for your life, you wouldn't notice all the stuff that isn't done...so leave it."

Take some time to take acre of you.

I was there yesterday

I am scheduled the week after you. I had a lap done last thurs and am not allowed to vacuum or carry very heavy items yet. So today I did a lite grocery shopping and kept a couple of appts. Tomorrow I go back to work. Hey maybe we can keep each others spirits up. Just think after wards you will have time to watch your leg hairs grow, read books, watch old movies and cry, eat popcorn, eat cookies, and visit on the phone with old friends. So smile hun!!! Tomorrow will be better than today. Remind me I said that to you..... I have had my share of crying in the bathroom this month....and hope that Jesus will be my strength through the rest of this ordeal....

hugs

Down Today!

When I had my surgery, I found out only 2 weeks before the surgery as it was due to an ovarian mass that was found in an ultrasound. So I know how you feel about not having everything done. I waited to tell the kids until 2 days before the surgery so they wouldn't worry, so they couldn't really be of help to me either.

I agree with the advice to think about only one thing at a time. Work when you are working and home when at home. And worry more about making yourself a nice place at home for your recovery than anything else. Teenagers don't do well with vague requests to help. Give them specific things to do. (Clean the toilets, mop this floor, gather and take all the trash out, etc.) I found that mine don't mind doing chores, but they need the extra prodding to do it right.

Good luck and once you are out of surgery, think of nothing else but your recovery!

One week post op today....can I help?!

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know there is light at the end of the tunnel! I felt so overwhelmed with things to do the week before surgery, you know scrub the bathrooms, scrub the floors, clean, clean, clean, because I just knew no one would do it while I was down!!!

I strongly reccomend stocking the pantry, but the rest of it will get done. My teenagers actually came through ( what a shock ) and have done a few things without being asked!!!!! Guess I trained them by example, because they were'nt much help before this!!!!

Anyways may I suggest a quiet hot bath to relieve your stress level because you can't take them for a few week after surgery!!!!

I am full of mental energy, the body however is in slow motion, but thats o.k., because even as sore as I have been I feel better than I did before!!!

Wishing you a speed and restful recovery!! Please post when your home so we will know how you are doing!

Thanks

A big "thank you" to all. I was feeling better by the afternoon.
I'm sure I'll be up and down for the next 12 days.

Now, another problem. I've been having headaches for the last three days. Due to start my last period, so that's normal. BUT I can't take Advil due to upcoming surgery. Tylenol does nothing for me. Any suggestions?
