Confused about pre op appt

So I had a pre op appt scheduled for this morning. I went in. They told me to pee in a cup, took some blood and sent my home. This can't be my actual pre op, can it? What about instructions, my questions, etc? Did anyone else have this happen to them?

Confused about pre op appt

Well, for me I have TWO pre-ops. One with the doctor, the other entirely separate with the hospital. Did your doctor not schedule one with you personally or was this one with the doctor? Or the hospital? From my two last ablations, my pre-op, hospital wise was a bit more extensive-chest xray, EKG, blood work, urinalysis, long discussion with pre-op nurse on time to arrive, what to bring, very very detailed.

Confused about pre op appt

Well doesnt sound right to me! When I went for my pre-op, I saw and talked to my DR. he answerd my questions
explained what he was gonna do showed me a chart..
told me about what could go wrong, ( he had to tell tell me that)told me he would do everything in his power to keep me safe and healthy!
listened to my heart and lungs, I had paperwork to sign.
then went to the hospital , more paperwork pre -admissions, the nurse 3 took tubes of blood, listened to my lungs again and my heart, gave me a bunh of info about my surgery answered /Asked questions, she gave me a thingy to use for breathing exercises, told me to come back 3 days before surgery for blood typing....that lady took 2 tubes of blood and put a bracelet on me to wear to the hospital.
I think you need to call them back and ask for sure what was going on!maybe someone got their wires crossed? Or could be the way your Dr does things...
I would check and see! Take care and good luck!
let us know what you find out!

Confused about pre op appt

For me I was referred to a specialist at a teaching hospital on 12/20. We scheduled surgery that day and they took blood and that was it. I did not return to the hospital or dr until the day of surgery. They gave instructions on bowel prep and nail polish but they didn't say anything about stopping ibuprophen, aspirin etc. I just know you have to due to previous surgery. This bothered me as well, but it seem many of us do not neccesarily get a pre-op. Just make sure you are well informed of what not to do before sugery.

The big ones are no aspirin, ibuprofen, many herbal suppliments 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Also the anesthesia people sometime require no nail polish, gel or acrylic overlay, etc.

Last but not least find out if you need to do a bowel prep (yuk).

Good luck with surgery and hang in there.

Confused about pre op appt

Maybe it has to do with what the doctor requests as far as pre-op work and that may be based on any number of factors-age, other issues, previous surgeries and problems encountered during those surgeries, current meds you're on? I haven't scheduled my pre-op with the hospital yet but I can't see that they'd do anything different than they did last year at this time. Guess I'll find out. I would suggest that those that are not sure contact their physician directly and say "The hospital only did x, y, and z...is that all that needs to be done?"

Confused about pre op appt

I didn't even go to the hospital. I just went to my Dr's office. They are convienetly on lunch right now but I am planning on calling this afternoon. Nothing was mentioned about bowl prep, I don't know if tubes are coming out or not, Dr doesn't know I will be alone for the first four days. Boy this is frustrating. I was doing okay until this morning. Then the mental countdown clock started!!!!!!!

It doesn't sound right to me either. Iwent throught my pre-op before my last date was canceled and it was pretty thorough. I would at least call my doc and set up an app with him for my questions.

Confused about pre op appt

My pre-op was alot of paperwork, blood work, urine test (state of Oklahoma they're required to do a pregnancy test on everyone getting ready for a hyster) EKG and Chest x-ray. Didn't have to do anything the morning of my surgery expect to show up.
