in a panic.. may have picked wrong Dr??
Hi..
I am in an absolute panic.. I'm beginning to think that I'm making a huge mistake. I've been digging and digging on the internet, and I'm getting hints that maybe my Dr isn't the right choice. Is there any way to find out a Dr's true complication rate and whether or not they have complaints against them? (this is for Maryland or Virginia)

if you are not 100% comfortable with your surgeon, you may want to postpone things. i would of never had this major surgery if i didnt feel absolutely comfortable with my doctor.l im a little concerned for you. please think this over. do you have friends or relatives who have had a hyster that you can get a referral to their doctor. good luck. keep us posted.

Re: in a panic.. may have picked wrong Dr??
you might have to pay for the information...but usually you can find out if your doctor has any complaints against him......
i wish i could remember the website i saw for that
i also agree with the previous poster...if you don't feel comfortable with this doctor then don't do it with this doctor.......
get a second opinion...ask your friends and family who they have used, etc......
hugs,

If you are experiencing concerns schedule a second opinion with another Dr..
This is a one way trip so you have to be absolutely sure you have the right opinion and feel comfortable with your Dr..

I agree that if you are not comfortable with this doctor, then get another opinion. I am pretty sure that you can find out information about the doctor from possibly the state medical board. At least, they can direct you to where the information is. Can you ask your primary about this doctor and get an honest opinion? My primary told me not to go to one surgeon because his infection rates are the highest at the hospital. I was very comfortable with my doc prior and would never have gone through with this if I was doubting him. Good luck with this. I will be thinking of you in my prayers and hoping you get the information you need,.

Zenyatta does give good advice. My GP was out of town at his grandfather's funeral when all this came down about my cancer and surgery. I called him because by luck his wife is also a gyn.
He called me back when he got back in town, by that time I had found a gyn-onc, and he confirmed that both he and his wife would recommend my gyn-onc. They knew him and thought he was great.
So asking your GP would be a good way to go.

Re: in a panic.. may have picked wrong Dr??
EastCstr1,
Its important that you're comfortable with and trust the skill of your doc. Its hard enough without worrying about that too. A second opinion is a good idea or maybe even a third. I asked every nurse I knew about my surgeon, the ones in my PC's office, my friends, my friends friends too. They were very helpful.
Wish I could help you with checking a doc's record, sure would be useful. Some states make legal information available online. I know I can look up arrest info, speeding tickets, malpractice suits... being filed. This may be misleading, just because someone is bringing a suit doesn't mean your doc did something wrong. If there are lots of suits, it may be a red flag.
I hope you get the information you need to give you peace of mind.

Re: in a panic.. may have picked wrong Dr??
Did you look on the Virgina and Maryland state medical board sites?
I just looked at them quickly and looks like you can see those that have had sanctions against them for various reasons.
I say if you don't feel comfortable though - no matter how good their record - get a new doc. This is too big a surgery to put yourself in the care of someone you have misgivings about.
I got my doc through a referral from a co-worker. I love my doctor and feel very confident in her skill as a doctor. It's just a plus that she's easy to talk to.
I think it's important to have a good fit with any physician who is treating you. My doc is very professional but not very personable per several who have seen her. I don't see that with her though and our personalities mesh well, so don't automatically discount someone who has a good reputation as a doc but isn't known for being personality-plus, they may end up being a good fit with you.
Good luck!

Re: in a panic.. may have picked wrong Dr??
Hi, I live in Maryland. You can google Maryland board of Physicians. Click on practioners and put your dr. last name in and all his/her information will come up.
For Virginia google Virginia Board of Medicine.
Maryland is very up to date with the dr's history. However, after reading on your doctor you still may be uncomfortable. If so, you would want to get a second opinion..
Good luck and God bless

As the other (((sisters))) have said, it's important to feel comfortable with your doctor.
If your case isn't an emergency (and it sounds like yours isn't) I would seriously advise you to postpone your surgery and get another medical opinion, and do further research on your doctor's record. Take your time. Having a high anxiety level due to lack of confidence in your is only going to make things worse for you.
