6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

I'm 6 days post op davinci. Left ovary was able to stay. Also had gall bladder out same time. Just did a walk around small lake and then back up 3 flights of stairs. Progressing well physically. Mentally not so well. Parents just flew back home. My 2 friends who were there for me so much back to their busy lives. I'm single and feeling very alone and depressed.

Re: 6 days post op depression being all alone in house

Hi nam1026, I am sorry you feel so alone and sad, I am 7 days post op full hysterectomy plus A & P repairs and bladder sling. It is a lot we are going through! I had a bad weekend thinking of being alone this week. I am married and have 4 daughters, none of the close enough to stay with me and all busy with their lives which I am happy for. My husband goes to work at 3:30 in the morning and gets home around 5:30 long day and I feel deserted in the middle of the night. but at least I have him here at night.
It is good you can get outside and get some fresh air, are there any activities you can resume yet that make you feel more like yourself? I started this morning like a normal pre surgery morning and it has helped, I do get discouraged when I look around at all I can't do yet. so I try to get up and change the scene so to speak.
I hope your day gets better remember to drink as much water as you can I think we need to try to clear our systems of all the drugs used during and after surgery. Remember you can always come on here and find someone who knows how you feel and try to think a little ahead of how much better you will feel! I hope you have a great day I will be thinking of you.

Re: 6 days post op depression being all alone in house

Thank you. I started doing laundry taking over all my chores my friends were doing for me. I just feel so isolated. After having people here 2x day and in hospital I feel abandoned. My 2 friends have busy lives and I was blessed they took time out for me but now I feel so alone. I'm going to try and walk around the lake 2x day. Kayaking has always been my thing so it's only been 8 days since I went last and I already going crazy.

Re: 6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

Are there some fun activities that you enjoy doing? Are you allowed to drive yet? If so, can you meet some friends for lunch? If not do you have any nice neighbors you can chat with? I hung out with an elderly neighbor a lot until I could drive again. We had a great time actually. Learn something new? Right now I'm learning Italian through rosetta stone, there are a lot of online learning programs for that type of thing. Do you like to sew, draw, cook? You could make something maybe for the people that helped you in the first days? Try out some new recepies that you have been wanting to do but didn't have time?

Re: 6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

Still on narcotics have 1st checkup Thursday so hopefully I will be cleared to drive. There r things I feel I should be doing since I'm home but just don't have the energy yet. I've cried quite a few times today. Not sure if having 1 ovary removed can be contributing to that or it's just my loneliness and depression.

Re: 6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

nam1026 .. I know just how you feel ... When my sister went back home I felt very isolated as well.

My gf works all day and plays softball a lot after work so I was home and couldn't really get out .. And the things I typically do for relaxation ( building furniture ... Walking my 50+ lb Dogs ... Etc ) were off limits .., and none of 'our' friends were really interested in just going to lunch or shopping or simple things like that. The friends I thought would make time for me, because I always go out of my way to help them, didn't. It was frustrating. I spent a lot of time resolving to do more things for myself once I'm all recovered and stop doing so much for other people That can't be bothered to return the favor.

I also signed up for Kindle Unlimited, downloaded the app on my iPad, and read a lot!

Re: 6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

I was getting lonely during the day. So I was answering the solicitor calls and talking to them!!! The it was internet shopping... My hubby doesn't talk much anyway whe he is home or he would go downstairs to watch tv , so it was like being alone.

Re: 6 days post hysterectomy depression being all alone in house

Hi I'm into my 6th week post Davinci. I too live alone and while I'm generally a loner, I'm finding the lack of work day structure is a little depressing. After the first week I was allowed to drive and that helps. Just being able to get out of the house helped. I go to my local Denny's and use their WiFi and have a meal. For me Denny's is sort of like Cheer's, everyone knows me there! Lol! I miss the social aspect of work, but not the job! Unfortunately I go back on Friday, I don't know where the time went! Time flies even when you're doing nothing!!! It's important that you give your body time to heal properly and just rest. I like to read and that helped to pass the time. Also I went to the pound on labor day and adopted a cat! Even though the surgery was minimally invasive and we just have small incisions, there was still a lot done internally and my surgeon told me that there is a lot of internal trauma that takes time to heal. I really think the reason I've had such a good recovery is because I've rested a lot. I'm an expert at resting!!! Hang in there it gets better!
