Pain Expextations

Hi all:

I'm another newbie with a question. On June 10 I'm having a partial hyster (ovaries and cervix remaining) and my biggest fear at the moment is post op pain. I'm a real weenie where pain is concerned!

I've had many laporoscopies and joint surgeries , but I have never given birth or had a kidney stone. If someone can give me an idea of what to expect I'd appreciate it.

Please excuse the lack of abbreviation knowledge and the spelling errors, as I live and type by my spellchecker.

Hyster Sisters RULE!!!

((((Wen)))))

First things- I am the Queen Weenie when it comes to pain! . I am going on my 5th week post-op, my pain was well managed in the castle and at home ( #1 on the pain scale ) the discomfort came from the gas & constipation. We are so different when it comes to being "weenies" about the pain , but joint surgery!!! OUCH GRIL !!

I think alot of ladies feel great the first week after, mainly because of the of the surgery being in the past and the Anesthesia that's still working it's way out of our system's, so it's easy to over do things at that time- I know from first hand experience.

Just follow your Doctor's 's and Pamper yourself.
Best of Luck.

Everyone is different and has different tolerances to pain. Immediate post op I don't remember any real pain - more of a discomfort than anything else, never any worse than a 3 on the pain scale. Menstrual cramps were much much worse. I had been warned not to let the pain get ahead of the meds. So I pushed the button on the PCA pump frequently, just in case.

After the pump was removed I took the oral pain meds every time they were offered, again just in case. I don't know if that's why I didn't have any bad pain or not.

The worst pain that I had after surgery was about 10 days post op - I was a little constipated and a nasty little hemorrhoid decided to make its presence known then. OUCH! But the constipation went away and the 'roid stopped hurting!

Best wishes!

I believe that as long as you take your pain pills regularly you should do fine. My DH tried to take me off them too soon and I could tell! I kept them up for the first week and a half because I also had a tummy tuck at the same time as the hyst and I think more of the pain was from the TT!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm still nervous but I'm much better than I was yesterday. I also realized that I might not "have it as bad" as some of you did because although I'm having an AH, I'm keeping my cervix and ovaries. Bless you all for your your replies.
