Re: Please give me an answer

Hello Sis
I felt the same way for the first couple of weeks. I came home later than expected from the hospital due to developing lung and UTI infection and was on IV antibiotics initially and then 4x/day high doses when I got home for and additional 14 days. I started feeling better in my third week post and am now 6 weeks post and doing really well. Slowly returning to work schedule with occasional twinges and still get tired. It gets better....those first 2-3 weeks can be tough with the added stress of the infection....just relax as best you can, drink plenty of water to help clear the infection, and rest as best as you can.

Re: Please give me an answer

Hi bellboop, I had a UTI during my fifth week post-op. I didn't have any of the normal symptoms. I just ached all over, I swear my hair even hurt. I took 6 tablets sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS, 2 a day and that took care of the UTI. When I first got out of the hospital I was taking Percocet for pain, I couldn't sleep, it gave me nightmares, headaches, nausea and I was vomiting. After they switched my pain meds to Vicodin I slept a lot better. My husband set the alarm clock and woke me up to take the meds and I went right back to sleep. Make sure you take the pain meds as prescribed because if you are even an hour late it takes awhile to get the pain under control. I slowly tapered back on Vicodin, wasn't able to stop completely until my 7th week. I have fibromyalgia also which makes everything hurt more then it should. You just had surgery, you need to pamper yourself now so you heal right. I was bored out of my mind but after reading some of the stories here I knew that I couldn't push myself. My body would heal on it own time clock, not mine. I think I called the doctor's office every other day with questions, so call them if you are not feeling better. I'm sure you will get a lot more answers regarding this. I'm sending you positive vibes and a big hug (((hug)))

Re: Please give me an answer

Thank you for the note, I have not taken the pain meds as I should they make me feel really bad. I have hydrocodon I am allergic to so many meds, I am on something for the UTI but after four days still running a low grade temp and yes everything hurts I ache everywhere. I had my surgery on the 13th. I know I need to give it time but everyone I talk to had such a good experience I had a TVH the dr. told me it would be easier, weel they lied. Thank you for letting me have someone to talk to.

HUGS BACK

Re: Please give me an answer

By the 4th day on meds you should start to feel better, at least that has been my experience. I would encourage you to contact your doctor if you are not improving so they can decide if you need to be checked again, or maybe a meds change is in order. UTI's and Kidney Infections are the pits and they make me feel like I have the flu! Hope you feel better soon!
