Previous surgeries and recovery

ok sisters I have a question. Have any of you that have already had your hysterectomy(don't know if I can post in the post op side yet) had any previous surgeries, and if so did it make recovery any easier to deal with? I had an augmentation 3 1/2 years ago and I recovered for that quickly, so much so that the two weeks DH took off to help I feel like he didn't need to, though I loved having the help when I did need it. This time around we cannot afford for him to take two weeks off so our nephew is going to help (he is great with the kids) but I just want to know how bad the cabin fever is going to be. I'm starting to get worried and surgery is next week.

Re: Precious surgeries and recovery

Hi Dolphin, I had a couple of earlier surgeries so had experienced GA before op. I can't say it made any difference to my recovery one way or another but it probably stoppe dme panicking about GA before op as I knew what was coming more or less.
I've been pretty much on my own since recovery and have managed quite well. I guess looking back it would have been nice to have someone wait on me for a couple of days but after that I would probably have thought they were fussing too much. We are all different.

Re: Previous surgeries and recovery

I had 2 prior c sections. I don't think that it played a part in my recovery from this surgery. You have to remember that every surgery is different and everbody heals differently. Try not to compare or rush your recovery. My recovery was fairly easy and I'm thankful for that. I suggest that you not go into it with unrealistic expectations amd know that this is a process and you will get to where you need to be. Check out the post op check points on this site. It gives you a good idea of where you should be and what you should or shouldn't be doing during each week of your recovery.
You will have your husband and your nephew helping, let them. You'll be okay.

Best wishes to you

Re: Previous surgeries and recovery

Thanks ladies. I wasn't nervous at all for my augmentations, right up until the point where they gave me the first coctail to relax me. Dh thinks it is because that was something I really wanted. I will take a look at the post-op check list and see what I can get from that. I have my pre-op tomorrow.
