Leaking Urine 21 days Post hysterectomy

Hi. I am 21 days post surgery and I am leaking urine. It keeps getting worse. I have never had a bladder issue until surgery. I am on my 2nd round of antibiotics for a UTI and I have never had one of those either. I am very concerned. I am 36 years old. I don't want to have to wear depends the rest of my life. I wake up in the night SOAKED with urine and have to change my clothes. All day long little amounts trickle out no matter how often I go empty my bladder into the toilet.
Please give me hope that this will go away with time and healing.
Do I need bladder repair surgery? A bladder sling?

Hello and welcome to this wonderful community of sisters who totally understand what you dealing with. I personally have had no experiences with a leaking bladder but hang tight, I am sure that others will post on your thread. Did your doctor say that the leaking was associated with your UTI?

Go to a urologist asap. If you have a fistula (which I certainly hope you don't) there are a few of us here with this issue and we can help you out.

Good morning.. I'm sorry you are going through this but I have a story to tell you...please read all of this reply... October 16th-2014 I had I TAH...vertical incision... I was home for two weeks and woke up in. A puddle of urine.. Immediately I went to the ER..the first procedure, they tired to put a stint in my bladder and that was unsuccessful due to my Ureter being snipped.....cut..damaged during my hysterectomy.😭 my Urologist didn't want to go in and correct it because I was still recovering from my hysterectomy and my tissues were nor strong enough... So I had a nephrostomy tube placed in to stop the leakage which I still have in...my next surgery will be next weds the 14th..I'm having a ureteral reimplantation...long story short GO TO THE DOCTOR.. my story may not be your story but I would go to the ER today..I thought I had a infection but I was wrong.. Please go get checked...I pray that your story will not be my story.. Praying for your speedy recovery. Blessings to you...😘

Hi, I have been dealing with similar issues myself. I already saw a Urologist on the 15th, but he said he thought everything looked fine. After the Cystoscopy (he gave me pyridium for the pain; it turns your urine orange.) I have been wearing a panty liner since the procedure (cystoscopy) and I still have small amounts of leakage. I saw my GYN on Friday and ordered a Cystogram to look further into the issue to check for a small tear or leak in my bladder. I would definitely follow up with your doctor to see what's going on. It will be alright! Search for other sisters with fistulas here,I'm one of them. There is plenty of information. Once you get all the info you want you will feel much better. Take care.

I have to have a Catheter for 4 weeks while the bladder rests and heals then I will have surgery to repair the fistula

Hello. I know exactly how you are feeling. I had a LAVH on 12-18-14 and 8 days later started to leak. I knew quickly it was urine and went right to my OBGYN and he ordered the die test & CT scan, and voila! There it was a midline vesicovaginal fistula. I wore a catheter for 3 weeks and leaked while wearing it, had one Uti and the last 5 days of the 3 weeks I had awful bladder spasms. Are you doing ok? Have you made an appt with a specialist? That is my only piece of advice, find a doctor with experience in repairing vvf.

I saw a doctor a week and a half ago who has experience with repairing these, I will have to travel 2 1/2 hours for the surgery in 2 weeks. I will be 8 weeks post op from the hysterectomy when I have the repair surgery. Do you know where your fistula is yet or how big it is?

I'm here for you if you need to talk. It's such a shocking diagnosis. I've been living with the leaking for 4 1/2 weeks now and it does get better. Hang in there.
