rectal cramps after hysterectomy

Hello, everyone! I had the robotic hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. One week after surgery I started getting rectal cramps everytime I have the urge to pass gas or stool. It is excruciating! Did anyone else experience this? My doctor was surprised to hear this. Also, I was bleeding minimally until yesterday I suddenly felt a big clot come out of my vagina. Does anyone know what is going on?

Yes I did..I had a TAH/BSO in June and these pains started about a week and a half into recovery...I would almost come off my chair...it would take my breath. My da'd's wife is a nurse and said this is due to internal swelling and that sitz baths and cold compresses might help. I did that and it helped some but it lasted about a week..others on here have had this too...I think it is just part of the process of healing. Make sure you stay on stool softeners for a while at least and drink fluids...I feel for you...hope you are better real soon...hugs, Brenda

Sometimes there is a collection of blood in the vault of the vagina and perhaps the clot you felt was just it draining. It's better to be out than in. Obviously any fresh bleeding should be looked at by your Doctor. I had terrible bowel/bum pain after surgery. Very sharp ,bent over double and was like knives. It was almost like once eveything shifted past a certain part of my bowel it was better. I had it for a few weeks and it's been Ok now. I think it's all just swelling and bruising. Not nice though, I can sympathise!!!

I also have the cramping when I have a BM... It is terrible. I have to do deep breathing in order to poo. It has nothing to do with the softness or the stool either... it is pain from the bowels being used. I haven't talked with my dr about it. I see him in three more weeks. I hope it will be gone by then.

I hope your doctor can shed some light into this. I am guessing the rectal muscles were affected when the adjacent organ was removed.
