6 Weeks Post hysterectomy spotting

Hi HysterSisters, I am now facing my 6th week post op and have my checkup with the doctor on Thursday. I am doing okay except I still have some discomfort but from reading all the posts I now know that is to be expected. One thing I am experiencing is spotting. I am still spotting and am concerned that there might be something wrong. Anyone out there that has experienced that after 6 weeks? I am older than a lot of you women, being 73 I find I am not recovering as quick as I thought I would. I wish all of you well and thanks for reading my post.

Re: 6 Weeks Post Op

Jan! At 6 weeks, it's still more about timing in the healing process than your age. Other Sisters of all ages have indeed experienced spotting at 6, 8 weeks, sometimes longer. Might be normal, might be granulation - that is scar tissue that starts to form over an unhealed area which slows true healing. Granulation can be treated with silver nitrate at your doctor's office, outpatient. It's the perfect thing to bring up at your 6 week appointment, and your doctor will probably notice it as well.

Just a word on the pace of recovering: it takes longer than the 6-8 weeks than you read about. Docs might release us anywhere from 4-10 weeks, but what that means is that they have no further follow up with us in regards to our surgery. Full healing takes 3-4 months, and some Sisters 6 months maybe more. We'll still notice swelling or a weak core - I've had a textbook recovery and noticed swelling last night after a week or two of having none. Go figure!

It sounds like everything else is going well for you so keep doing what you're doing!

Re: 6 Weeks Post Op

Hi there! Spotting/Discharge can last this long. If you had your cervix removed and have a vaginal cuff, the stitches from this could still be dissolving which could explain some of the spotting. The stitches can take from 6-8 weeks to completely dissolve. Or as Cussette mentioned it could be other things. When you see your doc on Thursday, your doc should be able to answer any questions or speak to any concerns that you might have.

Re: 6 Weeks Post Op

Hello Cussette and Falfrenzy,
Thank you so much for your advice and information. I will definitely tell the doctor about the spotting and see what he says. I have already gone through a cystogram and that was not fun...Had a lot of leaking of the bladder and then all of a sudden it cleared up on its own. Weird !!! Have never heard of granulation and that sounds scary..will see what he says on Thursday. Thank you HysterSisters....

The good news is tgat you are seeing your Dr & youll get answers promptly..Yes, spotting can continue & as Cussette has stated, it may be granulation, it may even be stitches.. The 6-8 week recovery that we're told it takes, well I dont know hiw tge Drs determine this. The body is not fully recovered in that time. Aches, even pains, swelling may continue for much longer. 🌹🌹🌹
