a 2 week checkpoint question

This coming Thursday will be my 2 weeks since my full hyst. surgery, and I forgot to ask the Doctor about bleeding after surgery. I've thanked God for this website, because it helps a lot with the questions. But i'm wondering what's too much bleeding? It's not the bright red, but it's there, and I don't want to go into panic mode. So i'm hoping that someone could help me a little to ease my mind.

Thanks ever so much!!

Bernadette

a 2 week checkpoint question

If it fills a pad in less than an hour then it is too much .... usually is the rule of thumb

How much are you bleeding and is it from the vagina or from an incision???

a 2 week checkpoint question

yes, I agree with cespos. I didn't have any but My Dr said the exact same thing on my release from the hospital. A little he told me was ok, but if you are concerned, before your visit contact your dr to be sure. My motto is ask ask ask that's what they are there for. Your recovery depepends on your comfort level too so be good to yourself and ease your concern & pick up the phone if you need too ....

I hope you are healing well. Take very good care of yourself.

a 2 week checkpoint question

That bleeding issue was one that plagued me too. Fortunately, I found this site, and my fears were relieved.

When I was discharged from the hospital, I had stopped bleeding (vaginally.) I thought I was in the clear, and since my doc said nothing, I had no idea what was coming next. Seven days post op, I started bleeding again. I freaked out, but my doc did not seem concerned after examining me. So, I headed off to the pharmacy to purchase what I thought would be my LAST package of maxi pads. That was a month ago. I have purchased several more packages of maxi's since. My point is, yes, you will have vaginal discharge, and yes it will take some time to ease off. It may be bright-ish red at first, then turn brown, but it is a normal part of the healing process. If it's very heavy, call your doctor right away. Like Cespos says, more than one pad an hour is too much. I have read on other postings on these boards that some people might take up to 8 weeks to stop having discharge. Personally, I am 5 weeks out, and still having a bit. My doc told me that as my internal stitches dissolved, the discharge may increase just a little. He said it's kind of like a scab that is healing, and when the scab comes off, it bleeds again.

Give it some time and don't overdo! Be good to yourself.
