Hormones messed up - feeling out of sorts

Well I am not as sore as I was but my hormones are all messed up. I have panic attacks all the time and my doctor's solution to this was to up my Celexa to 40mg. She also gave me Ativan but won't refill it anymore. It is hard when I have a 9 month old and a 3 year old and a husband who is in law enforcement. I don't have my post op appt until Jan 14th. The hot flashes have gotten better but the mood swings are horrible. I had the surgery because of endometriosis. And after having the surgery it sounds like it was something a really needed. I had been in pain for years. My doctor said everything was stuck together like cement. I just want my hormones to figure themselves out. My doctor put me on birth control pills so that I would get estrogen and progesterone even though I had everything removed. She doesn't want any of the endometriosis that she couldn't get to grow. I just feel out of sorts. Anyone else feel this way and don't feel like they are getting the support they need from their doctor?

Re: Hormones messed up - feeling out of sorts

Hi (((endo1975)))

Hysterectomy can certainly complicate issues of anxiety. If you still feel like you need to seek other options after your next appointment, perhaps you should seek out a second opinion? It may be a good idea to find an endometriosis specialist as well since some was left behind. I hope that your pain issues will be a thing of the past for you and that you find some answers to your anxiety soon. All the best to you!

Re: Hormones messed up - feeling out of sorts

Hi there, Which birth control pill are you on? I just recently started on one (Femcon FE) - even though I kept the ovaries and only removed uterus, cervix and tubes. Seems my own hormones were all out of control - fluctuations making me very sick. From the research I have done on taking the pill for hormone leveling - it is estimated to take up to 3 months. In the interim there can be many unpleasant side effects - like panic and mood swings - along with nausea, headaches etc.

How long have you been on the oc? The first couple days I took it were awful. I think it's improving but still early days for me.

The dose of estrogen you receive from the birth control pill is much higher than any estrogen replacement therapy. I believe the lowest dose bc pill is 10x more estrogen then one receives in most hrt programs. Right now we are probably getting "shocked" when starting on the pill. Once there is a "steady state" we are supposed to feel much better.

One strange thing I tried was splitting my bc pill in half and dividing the dose 2x a day. I see women on hrt do this and figured easing into the hormones a bit can only make the adjustment easier. I think I'm improved some since starting that. My pill is a chewable though, and easy to break.
Not sure if you can do this with any pill.

Hang in there. You are not alone. The docs don't alway give patients the support they need, so reach out to friends here...and hopefully better days are awaiting!! Robyn
