Fatigue/Insomnia

I had my surgery on May 30. Overall, I'm doing very well. The abdominal binder helps a great deal with support and I'm no longer having that awful gas pain.

I have an hour fifteen minute commute to work, which has never been a problem for me in the past. However, now when I get home from work, I am exhausted!!! I have just enough energy to eat and shower. After that, I'm done. BUT, I can't go to sleep! It's so frustrating!! I lie in bed for a good two hours with my body literally begging for sleep. Once I finally do go to bed, I'm wide awake 3 to 4 hours later. This cycle is making me feel anxious and unbalanced. Anyone else experienced this??

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

You're not alone. It's almost 1am, I'm so tired and I can't sleep. I tried melatonin and nothing. My doctor gave me Ambien and nothing. I'm desperate too.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

Yes every night. I'm not back to work yet but it makes me nervous for when i do go back. Last night i was up until 2, then back up at 4 and again at 7:30. Each time it takes me at least a half hour to an hour to get back to sleep.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

I hate you're experiencing it too Ladies. :-( It's rough!! My gp prescribed Restoril but it does nothing but make me have vivid dreams.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

I start working next week, I'm an accountant, how am I supposed to see numbers right if I'm so tired? Haha

I'm going to a Health Food tomorrow to see if they have something, a tea or something like that. Anything really!

I even mix melatonin and Ambien... Nothing...

If I find a magic remedy, I promise to post it in this thread! ;-)

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

This is one of the reasons I've joined the board! Three weeks post op. I'm in an awful cycle of exhaustion during the day and insomnia at night. My commute is an hour both ways and I start back to work next week. Thankfully, the Fourth of July will be a nice little break in the week. I'm trying to get a handle on this before I go back to work. So far, nothing is working for me.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

Hi everyone,
As long as I am not too wound up I find playing relaxation or meditation fantastic as it talks you through relaxing every muscle calms your mind and then you drop off to sleep. So get those earphones in girls! As for staying asleep, that's a problem for me too as have awful night sweats. however, i have been known to pop the earphones in then too. Its worth a try but you do have to focus.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

I had serious insomnia for the first couple months too. My doc suggested Advil PM, and it helped a little. What I found helped the most was getting my hormones balanced and time. I know that doesn't help a lot tonight, but know that for most of us the insomnia does go away. Another thing that helped was a white noise generator I downloaded for my phone. I still use it. All night everynight there's a rainstorm in my room in there, it gets better.

Re: Fatigue/Insomnia

I am glad to hear that I am not alone in this. I am 5 days post op. I find that I am awake until 3 or 4 in the morning then back up around 7.
