Hello, I'm new and need help and info...

Hi,
Thank you so much for having a board like this. My name is Cindy and I am 30 years old and am scheduled for a hysterectomy and removal of my right ovary (left shall remain). I don't know what to begin to ask, or if I am at the right place here on the board. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, August 12th. I just had surgery 9 weeks ago to remove my gall bladder when the doctors became concerned with how my right ovary looked. It is mostly tumor right now about the size of a large lemon and has gotten much worse since my last surgery, which is why my ob/gyn believes it needs to come out. My uterus has also prolapsed into the vagina.
I hear that early menopause is a possibility with even just one ovary left in place. As I am only 30 years old this is very scary for me. I need help looking for info., I need help with personal stories and suggestions as to what is the best way to get through this hysterectomy. I'm almost afraid to get too much information. I am in pain right now, and am living on pain meds until the surgery. I'm not really concerned at this time about whether I have cancer or not.
I am blessed with three wonderful children, and would love to have more, but it is more important that I be around for my family than to have more children. I think this would have been more of an issue 2 years ago, but since I've had so many problems as of late I think I'll be o.k. with this decision.
I really would love advice/opinions and I 'd love to hear what you all have gone through and are going through.
thank you for reading this...
Cindy

Hello, I'm new and need help and info...

Hi Cindy! Welcome to Hystersisters. You have come to the right place for advice and support. First let me say that I am sorry that you have to have another surgery. Sounds like you have really had alot of stress in your life lately trying to recover from one surgery and getting ready for another. Your ovary doesnt sound good at all and I can imagine it is causing you a great deal of pain. Its probably best that it gets removed. I have one ovary and I am 44 years old. I did not have to go on HRT nor do I feel any different as far as menopause goes. My doc says that my lone ovary will provide all the estrogen I need. Knock on wood, so far so good. You will hear different stories from different people concerning their experience with having a hysterectomy. I had no trouble at all. You move slow at first as you do with any surgery, but after a while, you get your bearings back and move on with life. Not having a period and all the pain that goes with it that your life revolves around is very liberating! I have much more energy and overall feel so much better.
If you have any questions or other concerns, please ask. The ladies here are great. As you can see, I am still lingering around and I had my surgery a year ago!
Take care and better health to you!

Cindy

WELCOME WELCOME We are so glad that you found us.
You will find this site just the best for support and help. Yes you are in the right place to post LOL.
Ok now first of all the best advise i can give you is to TRY (I know it's hard) but try to keep calm and positive. Our advice to all pres and it is so true is that waiting IS honestly the hardest part. I know that this time while waiting can be a time when your imagination can go wild, emotions start that ride on the roller coaster. But try to stay focused on the positive and hun you will do brilliant.
I am post from having a LAVH/RSO and bladder repair. I like you had my right ovary taken because of severe endeo, and like you had a severe prolapsed uterus and bladder.
Having been left with just one ovary has been for me fine. I have had very little problems. The remaining ovary can sometimes go to sleep for awhile, but my ovary did not do that and worked fine. One ovary can well do the work of two. I did a few months after my surgery have a few hot flashes but went to my Homeopath and he gave me homeopathic wild yam to take, it works brilliant. i only have to take it when i have them which now is very few and far between. Other than that I am not on any meds at all. I take a womans multi vitamin daily on advice from my surgeon.
My surgery went well although a little longer because of the bladder repair. At nine months post I am feeling wonderful, infact better than I have in years. I do still get times when I get a little tierd but all in all it was the best thing I have ever done for me.
We are here to help and support you hun, if there is anything you need or want to know just write and ask Hugs are also given freely here to. Please pop into the chat romm for that extra bit of support and even a laugh or two, it really helps to pass the time away while waiting.
Please feel free to e mail me personally anytime if you need extra support. I will be more than happy to help.
Remember just keep positive and post whenever you need to. Hugs and once again welcome Vicki aka smilie

Hi Cindy,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters. You've come to the right place for information and support from ladies who have been or who are in your shoes.

I'm one of the success stories. I had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy) on May 23. Now, ten weeks later, I can't even tell I had surgery. Except that all of the problems I was having are gone forever and I feel better than I have in months. (Click on the WWW button below my post to read my bio, surgery and recovery stories.)

Feel free to post any question or concern you may have. We're here for you 24/7 whenever you need us.

Best wishes and lots of s,

Lisa

Hello, I'm new and need help and info...

Cindy,

I'm not sure about the results because of the hyster. But I can tell you that I had my left ovary and a cyst the size of a softball removed in April and have had no menopause type problems at all. The problem now and the reason I have to have a hyster is because they had to also take the lower left uterus ligament due to the fact the cyst had grown into it. So now my uterus is prolapsing with heavy bleeding and cramping.

I myself am choosing to go ahead and have the other ovary removed at the same time but I have a history of cysts and in my personal case after having a long talk with my DR don't want to take the chance of her having to go back in a 3rd time.

In my research on the subject and correct me if I am wrong here ladies...you can have as little as 1/3 of one ovary and not need hormones. Now this is not always true. Its really based on each individual woman's body reaction to their surgery. My advise is to do the research on hormone replacement therapy just in case and then just relax and deal with the issue if you have to.

Good luck to you on your surgery. You'll be settling in at home about the time I go in for mine.
