HMO insurance...now who do I see?

I was wondering, since my insurance is HMO and I have to see my GP for everything except a once-a-year visit to a GYN, do I go back to her (GP) now that surgery is over for those exams? Or do I even go for those visits??--nothing left in there except a vagina. Who do I call about HRT refills?

I guess I'll have to ask at my 6-wk, but I was curious.

HMO insurance...now who do I see?

After my six week, my gyn punted me right back to my GP. Still go to gyn for yearly exams, but everything else to my GP.

Hi,
I have HMO insurance, too, but mine covers an ob/gyn for all gyn issues. Since I have endo, I will continue to see my gyn for my yearly exam (which we still need), as well as any endo-related problems. You might want to check and see if your HMO policy will do the same. I feel better seeing a gyn for "female" issues!

I have HMO insurance too - my doctor told me to come back in a year at 5 weeks post-op - makes me feels sort of lost though - he told me everything is still 'raw' in there and doesn't want to see me again? You have to be your own advocate with an HMO and if you think you should be seen - call and insist with an appointment. Somehow I don't think I will be healed for sex in 2 weeks - I still have all the stiches but one in there. So I probably will be back to see him. Good Luck with your healing.

Thanks for your responses...it gives me an idea of what to expect. We switched to HMO this year, and had PPO before. PPO was breaking us financially with all the deductibles and prescriptions costing more. But, I did notice with PPO, if I had a complaint, my doctor was sending me for all kinds of tests. I guess with HMO, they have to be a bit more conservative.

I don't know about that 'conservative' bit - my HMO always sends me for all kinds of tests - they are just usually done with-in the HMO network. Several of the tests were done out of network - but I haven't noticed a lack of testing at all. Just remember if you want something done - fight for it.
