Incision Question

I hope this doesn't sound silly, but where exactly is the incision for an abdominal hysterectomy? Is it right on the hair line?? Up more under the belly button?? I just don't know. I guess I never thought to ask my doctor. AND...approximately how big is the incision??

Incision Question

Not a silly question at all. Mine is right below the hairline and probably about six inches or so long.

Incision Question

I think it depends on a lot of factors. some are horizontal; others are vertical. Mine is vertical, and about a foot long, starting a little bit above my naval, right next to it. I had an especially large fibroid that required a big incision.

Incision Question

My incision is above the hair line just above the crease. I had 15 staples which were removed 7 days after surgery. My incision is neat about 6 inches long and given me no trouble. I was suppose to have a vertical cut but at the last minute the surgeon my uterus was not too large. I think the direction depends on what is going on inside there!!

Incision Question

My cut is very low, below the hairline and about 9 inches long almost from pelvic bone to pelvic bone. I didn't think it was going to be that low but it is one side healsed beautifully and the other side is not a nice looking and I may need to have another surgery to fix the hole that is there. the doctor was very upset the way it healed.

Incision Question

Hi Tara

Your incision will depend on the size of your uterus and any additional work that may or may not have to be done. Generally the incision is made as close to the hairline as possible in a horizontal incision. In a vertical incision, the cut is typically made just below the belly button and goes to the hairline. It certainly isn't a silly question, but your doctor can best answer this one for you. Good luck!
