opting out of surgery!!!!

After reading the posts for about 3 weeks I feel like changing my mind about surgery!! Aside from being scared, I do not have any serious pain or overly heavy bleeding!! My uterus is enlarged(about 1 lb.last year) and is putting pressure, at times, on my bladder. I think I am more worried about what may happen as opposed to what is happening now. I feel bad for all of you who have gone through so much pain prior to your hyst. I have a child with cerebral palsy who cannot walk or talk(he's 8) and I am afraid something might happen to me and I won't be able to care for him anymore. Oh Dear...so many things going on in my head!! Has anyone experienced this same thing, minus the pain as so many of you have had???? I have never met so many kind and caring people on the net,as I have here. So gald I found you. Hugs to all......... Renzo.

Hi Renzo,

Surgery can be a very scary thing, and reading some of the post-op problems that can occur doesn't help, does it. But keep in mind that the ladies who are posting about their complications ARE having problems. For every one post you read, there are hundreds of new princesses that are having uncomplicated recoveries and who don't need to post at all.

You also can't compare yourself to other ladies pre-op. If the problems you are having are interfering with your quality of life, then you need to find a medical treatment that will work for you, whether it be a hysterectomy or some other type of treatment.

It's natural to have doubts and fears. Just don't let those doubts and fear prevent you from getting the medical help you need. It sometimes helps to sit down with your doctor and discuss this issue further, maybe even get a second opinion if you need to, that way you'll know that you covered all the bases and are making the best decision for you.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

opting out of surgery!!!!

Hi

I agree - don't compare yourself with others. If your condition is not impacting your quality of life enough to warrant surgery, don't feel pressured to go ahead. But make a wise choice for yourself. Don't compromise your health.

Also, as has already been pointed out, it's important to keep in mind that the problems you see here are not the norm. For every woman who has problems after surgery there are many who do not. It is my belief, however, that it's best to be sure that you are comfortable with your decision before undergoing major surgery.

Good luck!

opting out of surgery!!!!

((( Renzo ))), I am amazed at how alike we seem to be. I had no pain or problems that I was aware of either. I went in for a routine pap and my dr found cervical polyps.I went in for a biospy and he then found precancerous uterine tumors (benign). I had a tah/bso shortly after that. I was terrified as I am the mother of a daughter with cerebral palsy. She's older than your son and can talk and walk with help. But she does still need daily help from me. I called on help from my family, friends, neighbors, anyone available. They were all great.
Please discuss all your worries with your dr and do what's best for yourself. I do understand how nervous you are but you do need to take care of yourself ( your son will need you to be healthy later too). Maybe your dr can advise you of someone to help also.
I did very well and I'll pray that you do too.
Best wishes.

opting out of surgery!!!!

I didn't experience any symptoms other than lethargy and a spreading middle, which I attributed to other things, until severe, sudden pain sent me to the ER a month ago. I have several HUGE fibroids, my uterus is the size of a 6 - 7 month pregnancy, plus I have a huge cyst on my ovary. Normal periods, heavy bleeding, but not nearly what I've read about some women experience, and my periods have always been heavy anyway.

You might want to talk through with your doctor what may happen if you decide to postpone surgery. I would think that having the surgery before you experience extreme symptoms and when you can plan everything carefully would be better on you and your child then if something quickly flaired up and you had to deal with an emergency medical situation.
